This <strong>of</strong>fer<strong>in</strong>g was excavated dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> Olmec throne rescue project. It is<br />

composed <strong>of</strong> broken Formative period ceramic vessels deposited immediately southwest<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> throne. In Figure 5.33 <strong>the</strong> placement <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Olmec throne and Offer<strong>in</strong>gs I and II are<br />

illustrated. The dashed l<strong>in</strong>es represent <strong>the</strong> 1.5 x 1.5 m units that were excavated dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />

<strong>the</strong> recovery <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> monumental sculpture (see Ceramics from <strong>the</strong> Olmec Throne Area<br />

Excavations section <strong>in</strong> this chapter). Each unit was identified by its northwest corner on<br />

<strong>the</strong> overall grid system and is shown <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> figure. The red l<strong>in</strong>e marks <strong>the</strong> edge <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

river cut bank and <strong>the</strong> blue l<strong>in</strong>e del<strong>in</strong>eates <strong>the</strong> area around <strong>the</strong> throne that had been<br />

cleared by El Marquesillo residents prior to <strong>the</strong> arrival <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> INAH archaeologists.<br />
