Figure 5.47. Vessel 5 from Offer<strong>in</strong>g V<br />

material on <strong>the</strong> exterior <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> vessels suggests <strong>the</strong>y were stacked upon one ano<strong>the</strong>r at <strong>the</strong><br />

time <strong>of</strong> <strong>in</strong>terment. This premise is also supported by <strong>the</strong> location <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong> situ piece and<br />

<strong>the</strong> naturally formed, partial ear<strong>the</strong>n mold immediately below it and <strong>in</strong> which Vessel 2<br />

fits neatly.<br />

Vessel 3 was recovered from with<strong>in</strong> a low platform, 1 m below <strong>the</strong> surface. This<br />

platform is practically imperceptible on <strong>the</strong> surface but is apparent <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> stratigraphy.<br />

Formative ceramics were found under, <strong>in</strong>, and above this platform suggest<strong>in</strong>g it was<br />

constructed dur<strong>in</strong>g this early period, circa 1200-500 BC. All <strong>the</strong> recovered vessels <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong>fer<strong>in</strong>g are considered to be <strong>of</strong> Late Classic orig<strong>in</strong> (AD 500-900); thus, <strong>the</strong>ir presence is<br />

believed to be <strong>in</strong>trusional. This is <strong>the</strong> same situation demonstrated for Offer<strong>in</strong>gs III and<br />

IV, which were located <strong>in</strong> Structure 108, approximately 30 m to <strong>the</strong> south.<br />
