excavated too, as were a number <strong>of</strong> dispersed disruptions detected near<br />

the mass graves especially to the southwest and southeast <strong>of</strong> them.<br />

The excavations carried out were concentrated on two other zones<br />

where soil disruptions had been detected by drillings, both located in<br />

the southern half <strong>of</strong> the former camp III: the central and southern parts<br />

<strong>of</strong> Hectare XXIV and the central part <strong>of</strong> Hectare XXV near today’s<br />

tarmac square with monuments and plaques commemorating the alleged<br />

victims. The disruptions detected in the latter zone were found to cover<br />

an area <strong>of</strong> approximately 40 × 30 m. In the process <strong>of</strong> numerous archeological<br />

digs carried out in hectares XXIV and XXV, the remains <strong>of</strong> a total<br />

<strong>of</strong> five structures were unearthed. They are designated by Kola as<br />

objects A to E. Objects A to D, all <strong>of</strong> relatively small size, are located in<br />

Hectare XXV, while the much larger Object E is situated in Hectare<br />

XXIV. Kola’s archeological findings pertaining to these five objects<br />

will be presented in the following paragraphs.<br />

A total <strong>of</strong> 800 drillings were also performed within the former area<br />

<strong>of</strong> camp I and II (the hectares XXXI and XXXII on the border between<br />

camp II and III, hectares XXXIX and XL just to the east <strong>of</strong> them, and<br />

Hectare XLVIII further south, within the former camp I). Soil disruptions<br />

were found scattered around the area with a notable concentration<br />

found in the northern part <strong>of</strong> Hectare XXXI. Kola describes this as a<br />

continuation to the south <strong>of</strong> the disruptions in the central and southern<br />

parts <strong>of</strong> Hectare XXIV (where Object E was discovered). Numerous<br />

disruptions were also detected in hectares XL and XLVIII. In the former<br />

hectare they are concentrated in the northern and eastern parts,<br />

while in the latter they are randomly scattered. All disruptions detected<br />

by probing drills in the former camp I and II were left unexcavated.<br />

5.4.2.1. Object A<br />

This building object is located in Hectare XXV, Ar 53, 54, 63 and<br />

64. It was unearthed by the diggings 1/01, 1a/01, 1b/01 and 1c/01. Kola<br />

writes about it: 459<br />

“The relic <strong>of</strong> a small building, probably a wooden barrack with<br />

some internal brick elements. The building had a basement with<br />

depth up to 2.50 m below ground level. The outline at ground level<br />

had dimensions <strong>of</strong> 2.75 × 2.75 m. The building’s wooden elements<br />

were completely disassembled. The remains <strong>of</strong> the building are ar-<br />
