Stages 5 – 9:<br />

Following agreement of on the preferred option, the following process will be completed:<br />

Stage 5 Review proposed actions for the selected option<br />

Stage 6 Involve relevant groups in developing the implementation plan and ensure ongoing<br />

consultation and engagement with identified groups<br />

Stage 7 Implement an equality action plan to address issues identified<br />

through the assessment<br />

Stage 8 Monitor impact of selected option in line with issues identified<br />

Stage 9 Publish the assessment of this monitoring.<br />

6. ESTIMATED CAPITAL COST AND FUNDING<br />

6.1 Capacity<br />

The proposed activity analysis (see below) has been used to determine the capacity required under<br />

each of the short-listed options along with assumptions about improved service models. These<br />

assumptions include:<br />

• Average length of stay in main Delivery Suite of 12 hours<br />

• Average length of stay in Birth Centre (collocated or stand alone) 18 hours<br />

• Women who give birth in the Birth Centre are discharged home 6 hours after birth<br />

• Women who give birth in main Delivery Suite are admitted to a maternity bed on a ward after<br />

birth<br />

• Average length of stay in maternity bed on a ward is 1.8 days<br />

• Average occupancy in all areas is 75%.<br />

The proposed delivery room and maternity bed capacity in each option is summarised below.<br />
