SWBTB (2/10) 038 (a) QUARTERLY INFECTION PREVENTION AND CONTROL REPORT October to December 2009 Management and Organisation Working arrangements both within the Trust and with community partners continue to work well. A decision has been made to strengthen the role of the Infection Control Operational Committee by devolving to it the role of monitoring of the Infection Control and Cleanliness Action Plan and this will be kept under careful review. Within the wider healthcare economy current priorities include joint working to gain a better understanding of the patient characteristics and risk factors for cases of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) diagnosed in the community or within 48 hours of admission to hospital and to ensure that all general practitioners providing services across the economy are familiar with important information regarding antibiotic prescribing and diagnosis and management of CDI. MRSA Mandatory reporting of MRSA bloodstream infections There were a total of 3 MRSA bacteraemias during this quarter (Figure 1) with our threshold for that period being 6. This brings a total of 10 cases in 9 patients for the first 9 months of the year, of which 4 were diagnosed more than 48 hours after admission and the remaining 6 were in samples taken within the first 2 days of admission from patients originating from 3 different Primary Care Trusts.
