• Merge the divisions of Surgery A and Anaesthetics and Critical Care creating a single<br />

division of Surgery, Anaesthetics and Critical Care.<br />

provide greater critical mass than the current small division of Anaesthetics<br />

and Critical Care is able to manage;<br />

support closer integration of anaesthetics, theatres and surgery thereby<br />

supporting improved use of theatres;<br />

provide opportunities to support the development of clinical directorates in<br />

surgery, anaesthetics and critical care.<br />

• Review the structures in IM&T, Elective Access and Operations including:<br />

o<br />

establishing a single Director of IM&T reporting to the COO to replace the<br />

current arrangement of two deputy directors reporting directly to the COO.<br />

Transferring responsibility for Elective Access from IM&T to the Deputy COO’s<br />

portfolio.<br />

It is intended to have these changes operational from 1 st April <strong>2010</strong>. Significant savings will<br />

be generated which are detailed in the relevant sections of the Cost Improvement<br />

Programme for <strong>2010</strong>/11.<br />

The resulting divisional structure including clinical directorates is set out in appendix A.<br />

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS<br />

This paper has summarised changes to the <strong>Trust</strong>’s Executive Team and operational<br />

management structure in light of our current circumstances and future direction of travel.<br />

<strong>Trust</strong> <strong>Board</strong> is recommended to<br />

1. NOTE the changes to the Executive Team and the <strong>Trust</strong>’s operational management<br />

structure.<br />

2. NOTE that the savings generated by the changes will contribute to the Cost<br />

Improvement Programme for <strong>2010</strong>/11.<br />
