5.4.5 Infection Control Surveillance Nurse (ICSN)<br />

SWBTB (2/10) 036 (a)<br />

The ICSN, under the direction of the HICN, is responsible for the collation and<br />

analysis of specified microbiological data which has an impact on patient care and<br />

the reduction/prevention of healthcare associated infections. In addition the ICSN<br />

undertakes specific audits and training to ensure best practice is understood and<br />

applied.<br />

5.4.6 Decontamination Manager.<br />

a) Responsible for providing decontamination advices, support and information to<br />

multidisciplinary staff within the <strong>Trust</strong> through education, training and working<br />

with staff in clinical and non clinical areas.<br />

b) Responsible for auditing, implementing, co-ordinating and monitoring the<br />

<strong>Trust</strong>s decontamination strategy to meet the recommendations of local and<br />

National guidelines.<br />

c) Responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring the decontamination<br />

programme.<br />

d) Responsible for reporting to and updating the Infection Control Operational<br />

Committee.<br />

5.5 Managers<br />

a) To ensure staff are aware of and have access to infection control<br />

policies and guidelines<br />

b) To ensure staff have understood the relevant policies and guidelines and are<br />

compliant with them<br />

c) To ensure all staff have undertaken a Local Infection Control Induction<br />

Programme which outlines infection control policies and procedures within<br />

individual areas to include; hand hygiene, sharps awareness,<br />

decontamination, care and management of patients with communicable<br />

infections where appropriate.<br />

5.6 Divisions<br />

It is the responsibility of the Divisional managers to ensure infection control policies,<br />

procedures and guidelines are implemented and monitored within each division.<br />

5.7 Matrons<br />

Matrons play a key role within the organisation and are responsible for ensuring<br />

adherence to infection control practices to include; cleanliness of the environment;<br />

adherence to infection control practices; audit and surveillance of key target mircoorganisms<br />

(to include C.difficile, MRSA bacteraemias) within their clinical area;<br />

compliance to ‘Saving Lives’ and hand hygiene audit tools and appropriate internal<br />

reporting including to the Chief Nurse and <strong>Trust</strong> <strong>Board</strong>.<br />

5.8 Ward/Departmental Managers/ Senior Nursing staff are responsible for:<br />
