Tufted duck were generally recorded infrequently and in low
abundance although a number of flights were observed during the
VP surveys, during which the peak count of 13 was recorded.
Tufted duck is a widespread and locally common breeding resident
(2,250 to 2,700 pairs) and widespread winter visitor (11,000) in
Scotland 23 . Given these population figures the peak count from
the Forthbank surveys represents less than 1% of these National
level populations and although no regional or district population
figures are available, it is not expected to represent a significant
proportion of these populations either. Therefore, the site is
assessed as being of local importance for this species.
