3. PVC water mains 16” in diameter and greater shall be AWWA C905 DR18.<br />

B. Ductile Iron Pipe<br />

Ductile iron water mains 16” in diameter and larger shall be in accordance with ANSI/AWWA<br />

C151/A21.50 with a minimum pressure class <strong>of</strong> 150 psi. It shall be the Engineer’s responsibility<br />

to determine whether a higher pressure class is required.<br />

C. Fittings<br />

All fittings shall be ductile iron and have mechanical restraints and thrust blocking.<br />

5.1.7 Water Services<br />

Minimum requirements for water services are as follows:<br />

A. Minimum 1” meter and 1” services are required for all residential and commercial services. The<br />

size necessary shall be selected based on design calculations <strong>of</strong> actual demands.<br />

B. Twin meters in parallel are not permitted as meter size shall correlate to the line size. Bullhead<br />

connections are not permitted.<br />

C. Meters 3” and larger are required to be in a concrete vault.<br />

D. Domestic or irrigation service connections shall not be allowed on a fire hydrant lead or fire<br />

service line.<br />

E. A domestic or irrigation service connection shall not exceed 50’ in length.<br />

F. A fire service line shall be a minimum <strong>of</strong> 8”.<br />

G. The water meter size shall be the same size as the service line.<br />

H. For a water service requiring a vault, a minimum 6” water line shall be required <strong>of</strong>f the water<br />

main with a minimum 6” gate valve prior to reducing in size.<br />

I. Meter boxes shall be placed within the right-<strong>of</strong>-way or in a dedicated water easement.<br />

J. Meter boxes shall be protected from vehicular traffic with bollards. If not protected by bollards,<br />

either a traffic-rated vault or curb is required.<br />

K. Meters shall be placed generally in the center <strong>of</strong> residential lots according to the Standard Details.<br />

L. Refer to Approved Material List for acceptable products.<br />

5.1.8 Valves<br />

A. Isolation Valves<br />

1. Isolation valves shall be placed on or near street property lines.<br />

2. Isolation valves shall not be over 600’ apart in residential and multi-family areas.<br />
