BUTTERFLY VALVES
PART 1 – GENERAL
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. All material, labor, equipment, tools and superintendence necessary to furnish and install
Butterfly Valves For Potable Water Systems in accordance with Public Works Construction
Standards, NCTCOG, 4 th Edition, Item 502.6.5.

PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Refer to Public Works Construction Standards, NCTCOG, 4 th Edition, Item 502.6.5.
B. Refer to City of Frisco’s Approved Material List.
C. Butterfly valves shall be Mueller Model Series 3211 or M&H Model Series 4500/1450 or
approved equal. Valves shall be Class 250.
D. Valve boxes shall be three (3) piece screw type cast iron of the extension type. The three (3)
pieces shall consist of the top section, bottom section and cover.
PART 3 – EXECUTION
3.01 INSTALLATION
A. Refer to Public Works Construction Standards, NCTCOG, 4 th Edition, Item 502.6.6.
B. All valve locations shall be marked with a “V” sawcut on the curb or pavement. The “V”
shall point to the location of the valve as follows:
Valve in pavement
Valve outside pavement
Upright “V”
Upside Down “V”
C. The butterfly valve operator shall face away from the curb line on all installations.
D. Valve boxes over four feet (4’) deep shall require extensions. Valve box extensions shall be
cast iron. PVC pipe is not allowed.
