B. The smallest pipe connection to water mains 20” and larger is 6”.<br />

5.1.11 Backflow Prevention<br />

Backflow prevention devices shall be required at the following locations in order to protect the public<br />

water system from cross contamination:<br />

A. Commercial property water service lines<br />

B. Dedicated irrigation lines<br />

C. Private fire service main supplying fire sprinkler systems<br />

D. Multi-family residential water service lines<br />

5.1.12 Automatic Flushing Valve<br />

A. Automatic Flush Valves shall be placed on dead-end water mains. Water mains anticipated to be<br />

extended in the future may be required to install an automatic flush valve, depending on the<br />

timing <strong>of</strong> future work and the specific location.<br />

B. Automatic Flush Valves shall drain via pipe to storm drain system.<br />

C. Refer to Standard Detail for typical installation and Approved Material List for acceptable<br />

products.<br />
