<strong>Engineering</strong> <strong>Standards</strong><br />

A. Landscaping that is located within the median <strong>of</strong> a thoroughfare shall meet the requirements<br />

shown in Figure 6.1.<br />

B. Refer to Section 2.07 (Thoroughfare Design Requirements) for corner visibility and sight line<br />

triangles with regards to landscaping and other obstructions.<br />

C. A minimum <strong>of</strong> 4” (or 6” in rock) suitable loam topsoil shall be furnished and installed in the areas<br />

behind the curbs.<br />

D. Only mowed grasses are permitted within 6’ <strong>of</strong> the existing or future face <strong>of</strong> curb unless approved<br />

by the Director <strong>of</strong> <strong>Engineering</strong> Services and Director <strong>of</strong> Parks and Recreation.<br />

E. Irrigation shall be provided in accordance with the Irrigation Design <strong>Standards</strong> (Section 7 <strong>of</strong> the<br />

<strong>Engineering</strong> <strong>Standards</strong>).<br />

F. Median tree spacing shall be 35’ (typical) apart center-to-center <strong>of</strong> tree trunk generally located in<br />

the center <strong>of</strong> the ultimate median.<br />

G. Trees shall be planted at least 4’ from the outside edge <strong>of</strong> a pipeline.<br />

H. The <strong>City</strong> has final approval for all tree placements.<br />

I. Trees overhanging walks and parking shall have a minimum clear trunk height <strong>of</strong> 7’. Trees<br />

overhanging public street pavement drive aisles and fire lanes shall have a minimum clear trunk<br />

height <strong>of</strong> 14’.<br />

J. Trees and planting areas shall not be installed on slopes steeper than 3:1.<br />

K. Landscaping shall be located so that pedestrians can walk along the parkway whether a paved<br />

sidewalk is provided or not.<br />

L. Sod shall be placed to cover the first 4’ behind the curbs <strong>of</strong> the median area and 2’ behind the<br />

curb along the parkway along all public roadways in accordance with the <strong>City</strong> Technical<br />

Specifications.<br />

M. Areas not required to be sodded shall be seeded after properly preparing the ground as designated<br />

on the plans and in accordance with <strong>City</strong> Technical Specifications.<br />

N. Conduit for street lighting and irrigation shall be generally located as shown in Figure 6.2 to<br />

accommodate trees, street lights and irrigation within the roadway median.<br />
