The Economic Community Of West African States<br />

Renewable Energy Policy (EREP) aims to serve 25 per<br />

cent of the rural population by decentralized renewable<br />

energy solutions in 2030 (mini-grids and stand-alone<br />

systems) i.e. 60,000 mini-grid systems by 2020. Part of<br />

the mini grids could be powered by small-scale<br />

hydropower systems. 9<br />

Small hydropower is defined as up to 10 MW or up to 30<br />

MW in this region, with the exception of Ghana where it<br />

is up to 1 MW (table 2).<br />
