of intralogistics (see Fig. 68). These parallel adjustment processes are most often<br />

described as trends in development of logistics, which, as a result, affect the<br />

level and structure of logistics costs.<br />

At present, eight significant trends can be distinguished in the general economic,<br />

political and social environment. They will transform logistics into a dynamic<br />

area of activity with significant range of changes in a few years to come.<br />

The trends are presented in Table 46.<br />

In the 1990s corporate logistics shifted from function-oriented to processoriented<br />

organization, at the core of which was the shaping and optimization of<br />

process chains and value creation chains. Apart from the main corporate processes,<br />

including supplies, production and distribution, the areas of development<br />

and secondary recovery were integrated with the processes of coordinating<br />

material flows. This initiated process chain management and global networks<br />

creation. At the same time, the structure of cargo and average volume of<br />

one order changed. Production plants concentrated, to a greater and greater extent,<br />

on core competences, gradually reducing the depth of processing. There<br />

was also an increase in external supplies and cooperation with system suppliers,<br />

supplying not only parts but also complete subassemblies. 20<br />
