Task 3. Legislative and regulatory consid€rations - ldentif the pertinent legislation, regulations
and standards, and environmental policies that are relevant and applicable to the proposed
project, and identif the appropriate authority jurisdictions that will specifically apply to the
project. Such as
. Waste management regulation;
o Plant relocation regulation;
. Dredging and reclarnation permits;
. Dust pollution regulation.
Task 4. Potential impacts (environmental and socio-cultural) of proposed proiect, incl. all stages
- The EIA report should identifr all the impacts, positive and negative, direct and indirect, and
short and long term, during the construction and operation phase, and evaluate the magnitude and
significance ofeach. Particular attention shall be given to impacts associated with the following:
Impacts on the natural environment
. Changes in flow velocitieVdirections, resulting in changes in erosion/sedimentation patterns,
which may impact shore zone configuration/coastal morpholory;
o Loss of marine bottom habitataround the foundations area" resulting in loss of bottom life,
which may impact fish stocks and species diversity and density of crabs, shellfish etc.;
o Sediment dispersal in water column (turbidity at the bddge piers areas), possibly resulting in
changes in visibility, smothering of coral reefs and benthic communities and affecting fish
and shellfish etc.;
o Disposal methods of solid waste and wastewater from construction works and temporary site;
. Impacts ofnoise, vibration and disturbance during construction;
o Noise concem should be included with reference to the existing noise concem for
Male'andHulhule and also the incremental noise due to the operation of the bridge;
o Impacts ofautomobile exhaust pollution during operation;
. Impacts ofbridge surface runoffs on sea water quality;
. Impacts on ground waler table and quality;
. Impacts on vegetation, wildlife and land resources, especially on unique or threatened habitats
or species (coral reefs, sea turtles etc.), and
. lmpacts on landscape integrity/scenery.
Impacts on the socio-economic environment
. Benefits and impacts ofthe works intransportation activities;
. Impacts of the bridge construction works on resource users (adjacent businesses, nearby
resorts and dive sites);
. Impacts on employment and income, potential for local people to have (temporary) iob
opportunities (and what kind) in the execution oflhe works' and
