EIA for the proposed Hulhule-Male’ Bridge Project
Tourist Resorts
All resorts consulted expressed having heard of the bridge project between Male’ and Hulhule.
The discussion points for the resorts were:
• The present transfer route of tourist visitors, staff and cargo.
• If they have been informed of any changes to travel routes associated with the bridge
construction
• Any changes to the
Holiday Inn Resort Kandooma Maldives
Guest transfer: Daily by speedboat (departure from airport), transfer takes about 40-45 minutes
Staff transfer: Daily by dhoni (departure from Jetty 7)
Since the borehole project for the bridge started, they have been travelling from a different route
(Villingili Route)
The difficulties associated in transfer are due to : sea might be rough due to changed wave and
current patterns, they would have to cross ‘Vaadhoo Channel’ which is known to be a relatively
rough sea and hence the time taken for transfers will increase.
Fun Island Resort
Daily guest and staff transfer is by speedboat from Male’ International Airport. Transfer takes
about 45 minutes to the resort.
They are using the Villingili route and don’t think that they’d face any difficulty due to bridge
construction.
Olhuveli Beach Resort and Spa
Daily guest transfer by speedboat departing from Male’ International Airport and transfer takes
about 45 minutes
Staff Transfer: Everyday except Friday by Dhoni (departure from Male’)
