1. Starting circle at a jog or exiting roll backs at a jog, up to<br />

two strides, one-half (1/2 ) point.<br />

2. Jogging beyond two strides, but less than one-half circle or<br />

one-half the length of the arena, 2 points;<br />

3. Over or under spinning up to one-eighth of a turn, one-half<br />

(1/2) point.<br />

4. Over or under spinning from one-eighth to one-fourth (1/4)<br />

of a turn, 1 point;<br />

5. Failure to remain a minimum of twenty (20) feet from the<br />

wall or fence when approaching a stop and/or rollback,<br />

one-half (1/2) point.<br />

K. Failure to change lead penalty – Where a change of lead is<br />

specified immediately prior to a run to the end of the pen:<br />

1. Failure to change leads by one stride, 1/2 point.<br />

2. Failure to change leads beyond one stride, but where lead<br />

change is completed prior to next maneuver, 1 point.<br />

3. Lead is not changed prior to the next maneuver, 2 points.<br />

4. In patterns requiring a run-around, failure to be on the<br />

correct lead when rounding the end of the arena, 1 point.<br />

5. Failure to be on the correct lead prior to the center point of<br />

the arena, two (2) points.<br />

L. Faults Against <strong>Horse</strong> – Faults against the horse, to be scored<br />

accordingly, but not to cause disqualification:<br />

1. Opening of the mouth excessively, when wearing a bit.<br />

2. Excessive jawing, open mouth, or head raising on the stop.<br />

3. Lack of a smooth, straight stop on the haunches,<br />

bouncing, sideways stop.<br />

4. Refusing to change leads.<br />

5. Anticipating signals.<br />

6. Stumbling.<br />

7. Wringing the tail.<br />

8. Backing sideways.<br />

9. Knocking over markers.<br />

M. Faults Against Rider – Faults against the rider, to be scored<br />

accordingly, but not to cause disqualification:<br />

1. Losing a stirrup;<br />

2. Any unnecessary aid given by the rider (such as<br />

unnecessary talking, petting, spurring, quirting, or jerking<br />

of the reins);<br />

3. In all Reining patterns, failure to run circles or figure eights<br />

within the markers is not considered a fault depending on<br />

arena conditions, as to size, however, failure to go beyond<br />

the markers on rollbacks and stops is considered a fault.<br />
