(5) Turning head severely.<br />

(6) Squatting in the corner.<br />

(7) Incorrect position.<br />

(8) Failure to be in correct lead before horse moves<br />

into position on the steer.<br />

F. Disqualification – In all Judged Team Roping events, it is an<br />

automatic disqualification when both the Header and Heeler fail<br />

to complete both catches within one (1) minute from the time<br />

the steer leaves the chute.<br />

M7. Judged steer stopping<br />

A. Entries to be judged on manners behind the barrier, and at all<br />

times. The <strong>Pinto</strong> shall be judged on the rate of speed to steer,<br />

ability of entry to rate, check, stop straight and to stop and turn<br />

the steer to face <strong>Pinto</strong>.<br />

B. There is a time limit of one (1) minute or two (2) loops,<br />

whichever comes first. If roper fails to catch, he/she will retire<br />

from the arena with no score.<br />

C. Classes shall be scored on a point basis of 0 to 100 points,<br />

with 70 points denoting an average performance. Any<br />

unnecessary whipping, jerking of reins, talking or any noise<br />

making, slapping, jerking of rope or any unnecessary action<br />

to induce the <strong>Pinto</strong> to perform better, will be considered a fault<br />

and scored accordingly.<br />

M8. Team Penning<br />

A. A team of <strong>Pinto</strong>s must cut out from the herd and pen within<br />

a two (2) minute time limit three (3) head of cattle with the<br />

assigned (same) identity number or colored neckband.<br />

B. Once committed to their cattle, the team is completely<br />

responsible for their animals. A team exhibiting any<br />

unnecessary roughness to the cattle or <strong>Pinto</strong>s, or<br />

unsportsmanlike conduct, will be disqualified. No hazing or<br />

popping of romal or reins on chaps will be allowed.<br />

C. To be judged on fastest time.<br />

D. Complete rules may be obtained from the PtHA business<br />

office. Points will awarded to each PtHA registered animal on<br />

placing teams.<br />

M9. Breakaway Roping<br />

A. This is a timed roping event with a two-minute time limit. Refer<br />

to <strong>Rule</strong> M4.<br />

B. <strong>Horse</strong> must start from behind a barrier. A ten (10) second<br />

penalty will be added to the time for breaking the barrier.<br />

Calves or hornless cattle must be used.<br />

C. Two loops will be permitted. One or two ropes are to be tied<br />

to the saddle horn by a heavy string, in such a manner as to<br />

allow the rope to be released from the horn when the calf or<br />

hornless cattle reaches the end of the rope. A visible cloth or<br />

flag must be attached to the end of the rope tied to the horn to<br />

make it easier for the flagger to see it break free.<br />

D. Should the roper desire to use a second loop, he may either<br />

recoil if carrying only one rope or use a second rope tied to the<br />

saddle horn. If the second loop falls loose, it cannot be rebuilt.<br />

E. The contestant may free his/her first rope from the horn after a<br />

miss before getting his/her second loop ready if he/she wishes.<br />

F. The contestant shall receive no time should he break the rope<br />

from the horn by hand or touch the rope or string after the<br />

catch is made. If the rope dallies or will not break free when<br />

the calf reaches the end of it, the contestant will receive no<br />

time.<br />

G. Time will be called from drop of flag at barrier to the break of<br />

rope string from the saddle horn. A legal catch is to be any<br />

loop that goes completely over the head of the calf or hornless<br />
