disqualified. Should the entry be able to continue the course<br />
despite the difficulty and without cruelty, it may continue<br />
without penalty.<br />
L. The method of holding reins is optional.<br />
M. Timing – A photo electrically activated electronic or electric<br />
timer is preferred to stop watches. If such an electrical timer<br />
is used, at least one official should take the time with a<br />
stop watch in case of failure of the electric device. If such<br />
an electrical timer is not available, three stop watches are<br />
recommended to be used, with the median time being the<br />
official time. (The median time is the time indicated by two of<br />
the three stop watches if two agree. If no two watches agree,<br />
the median time is the time indicated by the watch which<br />
indicated neither the fastest nor slowest time.) All stop watches<br />
must be calibrated in at least tenths of a second.<br />
N. All measurements given in Gymkhana rules are desired if<br />
arena space allows. However, when space does not allow<br />
prescribed measurements, common sense must prevail.<br />
O. Youth exhibitors may not be tied, buckled, or fastened in any<br />
way to a <strong>Pinto</strong> or any portion of the tack in any youth class<br />
– exception, any person with a reasonable Accommodation<br />
for Challenged Exhibitors Certificate which necessitates such<br />
assistance.<br />
o2. appointments<br />
A. Equipment and attire must be Western.<br />
1. Hats or safety helmets are recommended for all Gymkhana<br />
classes, but are at the exhibitor’s option. If hat or safety<br />
helmet is worn and it falls off and touches the ground while<br />
in the arena, a five (5) second penalty will be assessed.<br />
2. McClellan or similar saddle shall be considered Western<br />
when Western bridles are used.<br />
3. All Western tack and equipment is acceptable if humane. If<br />
a tiedown is used the noseband must be rope, leather, or<br />
nylon. No wire permitted.<br />
B. The following items of equipment are prohibited in all classes<br />
in this division:<br />
1. Any other kind of bridle or equipment not appropriate to the<br />
saddle being used and to the attire of the rider.<br />
2. Unusual construction or arrangements, if considered by the<br />
judge to be inhumane, abnormal or dangerous.<br />
o3. Cloverleaf Barrel Competition<br />
A. Competition Patterns<br />
1. The rider shall have two (2) options<br />
a. Cross the timing line, circle barrel one (1) clockwise,<br />
circle barrel two (2) counter-clockwise, circle barrel<br />
three (3) counter-clockwise and cross timing line,<br />
b. Cross the timing line, circle barrel two (2) counterclockwise,<br />
circle barrel one (1) clockwise, circle barrel<br />
three (3) clockwise, and cross timing line.<br />
B. Course<br />
Three barrels shall be placed to form an isosceles triangle.<br />
The distance from barrel 1 to barrel 2 shall be 105’. The<br />
distance from barrel 1 to barrel 3 shall be 120’. The distance<br />
from barrel 2 to barrel 3 shall be 120’. The distance from<br />
barrels 1 and 2 to the timing line shall be 75’.<br />
o4. Pole Bending Competition<br />
A. The rider shall have his/her choice of the side on which to pass<br />
the first pole. Management should allow ample room between<br />
all running lanes and between the lanes and walls or fences.<br />
B. Six poles shall be placed 21’ apart in a straight line down the<br />
approximate center of the ring, with the first pole being 21’<br />
from the timing line. The timing line shall be 30’ long. The entry<br />
shall cross the timing line, move in an approximately straight<br />
