ope, or any unnecessary action to induce the <strong>Pinto</strong> to perform<br />

better, will be considered a fault and scored accordingly. If,<br />

in the opinion of the line judge, the exhibitor is fouled by any<br />

moving part of the chute, barrier, etc., ropers shall get his/her<br />

steer back, providing exhibitor declares by immediately pulling<br />

up. The exhibitor shall not attempt to rope the animal until the<br />

barrier flag has been dropped. Any attempt by an exhibitor to<br />

position his/her <strong>Pinto</strong> behind the barrier, enabling the exhibitor<br />

to rope the animal without attempting to leave the barrier (box),<br />

shall be considered a disqualification. At the judge’s discretion,<br />

a rerun may be given if the animal being roped leaves the<br />

arena or in the event of a malfunction of the chute or barrier.<br />

D. The Heeler may throw two loops. If more than one loop is to be<br />

thrown, the roper must recoil the rope. If the roper fails to catch<br />

within one-minute time limit, he/she will retire from the arena<br />

with no score.<br />

E. Scoring – Entries will be scored on a point basis of 0 to<br />

100 with 70 points denoting an average performance. Each<br />

maneuver will be scored from a plus three to a minus three, in<br />

½ point increments.<br />

1. The Heeling <strong>Horse</strong> will be judged on four different<br />

maneuvers:<br />

a. Box.<br />

b. Running and Rating.<br />

c. Position.<br />

d. Stopping.<br />

2. The following deductions will result:<br />

a. Two (2) Point.<br />

Header breaking the barrier.<br />

b. Three (3) Point.<br />

A three loop run.<br />

c. Five (5) Point.<br />

(1) Assuming position on the wrong side of the steer.<br />

(2) Running into the steer.<br />

(3) Failure to stop on the hindquarters and hold<br />

position through the completion of the run.<br />

(4) Blatant disobedience including kicking, biting,<br />

bucking, rearing and striking.<br />

(5) Refusing to enter the box.<br />

(6) Rearing up in box.<br />

d. Disqualified (0) – Score.<br />

(1) Excessive schooling at any time in the arena.<br />

(2) Whipping or hitting the horse with the rope.<br />

(3) If both the header and heeler fail to catch within<br />

one minute from the time the steer leaves the<br />

chute.<br />

(4) Loss of rope by either the header or the heeler.<br />

(5) Failure of the roper on the horse being judged to<br />

catch with no more than two loops. If more than<br />

one loop is thrown, rider must recoil rope and<br />

build an additional loop.<br />

(6) Failure to maintain a dally through the completion<br />

of the run. The rope must be wrapped around the<br />

saddle horn at least one complete turn before it is<br />

considered a dally.<br />

e. The following shall be faults scored according to<br />

severity:<br />

(1) Jerking the reins.<br />

(2) Slapping.<br />

(3) Jerking the rope or any unnecessary action to<br />

enhance the performance of the horse or talking<br />

or any noise-making.<br />

(4) Turning around in the box.<br />
