n2. Hunter seat English Pleasure<br />
A. Judging<br />
1. Entries should give the appearance of being a pleasure to<br />
ride. To enter the ring at a normal trot. Classes restricted to<br />
Pleasure Type and Saddle Type may not be pre-loaded.<br />
2. To be shown at a walk, normal trot and canter both ways of<br />
the ring. Extended trot and hand gallop may be required at<br />
the judge’s discretion. Entries may be asked to back.<br />
3. To be judged as pleasure <strong>Horse</strong>s or Ponies on<br />
performance, manners, conformation, and suitability.<br />
B. Gaits<br />
1. All gaits to be smooth, fluid, and efficient, without<br />
excessive knee action or short choppy strides. Faults<br />
would include: excessive movement on the forehand;<br />
behind the bit or over-collection; poll lower than withers;<br />
lazy, rushing, or inconsistent gaits. Any tendency to move in<br />
a Western style jog, jog trot, or lope must be penalized.<br />
2. Walk: free, ground-covering four beat gait; rhythmic and flatfooted.<br />
Trot: true forward-moving two beat gait; cadenced<br />
and balanced; extreme speed to be penalized. Canter: true<br />
forward moving three beat gait; smooth, balanced, and<br />
straight on both leads.<br />
3. Hand Gallop – No more than eight (8) <strong>Pinto</strong>s may hand<br />
gallop at a time, in any class, with the exception of PtHA<br />
managed shows.<br />
n3. Hunter under saddle<br />
A. Judging<br />
1. Entries should give the appearance of being suitable for<br />
use as field and/or arena Hunter Over Fences. To enter the<br />
ring at a normal trot. Classes restricted to Pleasure type<br />
and Saddle type may not be pre-loaded.<br />
2. To be shown at a walk, normal trot, canter both ways of the<br />
ring. Hand gallop may be required. <strong>Pinto</strong>s may be asked to<br />
back.<br />
3. Light contact with horse’s mouth is required. Entries should<br />
be obedient, alert, responsive to move freely, and shall not<br />
be eliminated for slight errors.<br />
4. To be judged as Hunters on the flat on performance,<br />
soundness, and suitability.<br />
5. Conformation Hunter Under Saddle – To be judged as<br />
Hunters on the flat on performance, conformation, and<br />
suitability.<br />
B. Gaits<br />
1. All gaits to be smooth, fluid; long and ground-covering<br />
strides, without excessive knee action or short, choppy<br />
strides. Appearance to be well-balanced and able to cope<br />
with jumping, turning, rolling terrain, and natural ground<br />
conditions. All Hunters should be able to maintain an even<br />
hunting pace, collect smoothly in transitions, and stop<br />
and stand quietly from any gait. Faults would include:<br />
