cattle and draws up on any part of the calf or hornless cattle’s<br />
body, causing the rope to break away from the saddle horn.<br />
Roping the calf or hornless cattle without releasing the loop<br />
from the hand is not permitted.<br />
H. The contestant shall not attempt to rope the animal until the<br />
barrier flag has been dropped. Any attempt by a contestant to<br />
position his horse behind the barrier, enabling the contestant<br />
to rope the calf or hornless cattle without leaving the barrier or<br />
box, shall be considered a disqualification.<br />
I. Rope may not pass through bridle, tie-down, neck rope or any<br />
other device.<br />
J. A judge may, at his/her discretion, use the ring steward,<br />
other show officials or approved PtHA judges to assist as<br />
barrier judges and to help determine legal catches or any rule<br />
infractions.<br />
K. It is recommended, whenever possible, the judge be on<br />
horseback and flag the class.<br />
n. EnGlisH PERFoRManCE<br />
n1. Hunter seat Classes<br />
A. General Regulations<br />
1. <strong>Horse</strong>s, Ponies and Utilities shall be serviceably sound<br />
and shown without artificial appliances.<br />
2. Manes – It is recommended that entries be shown with<br />
natural or shortened mane and tail. Roached mane to be<br />
discouraged. Roached mane is prohibited in Show Hack.<br />
3. Braids – Hunter style braiding; forelock and mane or<br />
forelock, mane and tail is optional in all classes. In Hunt<br />
tradition, the tail is never braided unless the mane and<br />
forelock are also braided. The forelock is always braided<br />
when the mane is braided. The fact that an entry is or is<br />
not braided shall not be taken into consideration in the<br />
judging of a class, but entries braided in a non-conforming<br />
manner shall be penalized.<br />
4. Classes using Hunter Seat equipment/attire are open to all<br />
types of <strong>Pinto</strong>s. For Saddle type entries in these classes,<br />
hoof length is restricted to no longer than five (5) inches<br />
and one single pad formed of a continuous material, either<br />
synthetic or leather, that lies flat against both the sole of<br />
the foot and shoe (may be thicker at the heel), with no<br />
baffles, waffles, rims or projections.<br />
5. Hunter Seat & Saddle Seat English Pleasure and Hunter<br />
& Saddle Seat Equitation events may be combined at the<br />
option of Show Committees.<br />
B. Appointments<br />
1. Saddle – Any acceptable Hunter Seat or forward seat<br />
saddle. Breastplates optional.<br />
2. Bridle – Snaffle, Pelham, Kimberwicke (single or double<br />
rein), or full bridle are permitted in all Hunter Seat classes.<br />
Full bridle must be ridden with double reins. Pelham<br />
(double rein curb type) must be ridden with double reins<br />
unless bit converters are used to allow the use of a<br />
single rein. Copper wrapped and twisted wire bits are<br />
allowed, but must gauge a minimum diameter of 5/16<br />
inch when measured 1 inch in from cheek, and may have<br />
a port no higher than 1 1/2”. On broken mouth pieces<br />
only, connecting rings of 1 1/4” or less in diameter or<br />
connecting flat bar of 3/8” - 3/4” measured top to bottom<br />
with a maximum length of two (2) inches which lie flat in<br />
the horses mouth are acceptable. Snaffle bit rings may be<br />
no larger than four (4) inches in diameter. Any bit having<br />
a fixed rein requires the use of a curb chain. Smooth<br />
round, oval or egg-shaped, slow twist, corkscrew, single<br />
