GlossaRy oF TERMs<br />
age –<br />
• Elite amateur – Adult exhibitor age 55 and older who meets the<br />
requirements of the PtHA Amateur program rules<br />
• Junior amateur – Adult exhibitor age 19-39 who meets the<br />
requirements of the PtHA Amateur program rules<br />
• Junior <strong>Pinto</strong> – Refers to the age of the equine (2 years and<br />
under in Halter; 5 years and under in performance)<br />
• Junior youth – Exhibitor age 13 and younger who meets the<br />
requirements of the PtHA Youth program<br />
• senior amateur – Adult exhibitor age 40-54 who meets the<br />
requirements of the PtHA Amateur program rules<br />
• senior <strong>Pinto</strong> – Refers to age of animal – 3 years and over in<br />
Halter; 6 years and over in performance<br />
• senior youth – Exhibitor age 14-18 who meets the requirements<br />
of the PtHA Youth program<br />
• youth leadline – Exhibitor age of 8 and younger who meets the<br />
requirements of the PtHA Youth program<br />
• youth walk/Trot – Exhibitor age of 11 and younger who meets<br />
the requirements of the PtHA Youth program<br />
Classes –<br />
• Equitation, <strong>Horse</strong>manship, Reinsmanship – Class judged<br />
solely on the exhibitor; the art of riding or driving<br />
• Halter – Class judged solely on the <strong>Pinto</strong>’s conformation and<br />
while being led at a walk and a trot or jog<br />
• Performance – Class judged solely on the <strong>Pinto</strong> while being<br />
ridden or driven, or while being ridden, driven or led over/through<br />
obstacles<br />
• showmanship – Class judged solely on exhibitor while <strong>Pinto</strong> is<br />
led at a walk and jog or trot through a specific pattern<br />
Competitive unit – An Amateur/<strong>Pinto</strong> or Youth/<strong>Pinto</strong> combination<br />
Corporate – Corporations, Partnerships, LLCs, LLPs, Trusts and/or<br />
creations of law not being natural persons<br />
Exhibitor – The rider, driver or handler of the <strong>Pinto</strong> in any Open,<br />
Amateur or Youth class<br />
Member in Good standing – PtHA member that has paid<br />
requisite membership fee and is not under current suspension from<br />
membership with PtHA<br />
novice – Beginning Youth or Amateur exhibitor who meets the<br />
Novice Program requirements<br />
outcross Papers – Registration papers from any other equine<br />
association<br />
<strong>Pinto</strong> – Any horse, pony or miniature registered with the PtHA<br />
seat – Refers to style of riding/exhibition (hunt seat, saddle seat,<br />
stock seat)<br />
Type –<br />
• Hunter Type – an English horse generally including<br />
Thoroughbred and approved European Warmblood breeding and<br />
conformation<br />
• Pleasure Type – body type, breeding & carriage most often<br />
associated with the Arabian, Andalusian or Morgan<br />
• saddle Type – body type, breeding & carriage most often<br />
associated with the Saddlebred, Tennessee Walking <strong>Horse</strong>, and/<br />
or Modern Shetland or Hackney Pony<br />
• stock Type – a western horse of predominantly Quarter <strong>Horse</strong> or<br />
Paint breeding and conformation<br />
