i3. Miniature<br />

A. Refer to <strong>Horse</strong> rules for further information for items not<br />

covered below.<br />

B. Miniatures are to be shown unshod in all classes and without<br />

weights of any kind. Any type of shoe or indication of shoes<br />

having been used, such as nail holes in the hooves of any<br />

miniature horse in the show ring, is strictly prohibited. Nonconforming<br />

entries must be eliminated.<br />

C. Miniature mares and geldings may be allowed to show in Youth<br />

and Amateur Showmanship and Lead Line classes only.<br />

D. Miniature Stallions may be shown by persons 19 years of age<br />

or older.<br />

E. Miniatures may be ridden in Leadline and Leadline Costume<br />

classes. Riders must be 6 years old and under.<br />

F. Miniature and “B” Miniature classes may be combined.<br />

G. It is permissible to tie up long tails in Miniature Trail In-Hand<br />

and Jumping In-Hand classes.<br />

H. No pads, wedges, chains or weighted ankle boots elastic<br />

bands, shackles, or other artificial appliances to be used on<br />

the grounds of a PtHA show, to enhance action.<br />

i4. utility<br />

A. Refer to <strong>Horse</strong> rules for further information for items not<br />

covered below. Class rules for Utilities follow horse rules<br />

unless otherwise noted.<br />

B. Utility <strong>Pinto</strong>s are not allowed to show with any other type or<br />

classification of <strong>Pinto</strong> in any class.<br />

i5. Conformation Characteristics<br />

A. Stock Type <strong>Horse</strong><br />

1. The accepted breeding of the Stock type <strong>Pinto</strong> is a<br />

Western horse of predominantly Quarter <strong>Horse</strong> breeding<br />

and conformation.<br />

2. Halter classes – Stock type entries are shown in a halter<br />

with lead shank. No assistants are permitted in the ring.<br />

Whip or crop is prohibited. Stock type <strong>Horse</strong>s shall stand<br />

squarely on all four feet.<br />

3. Entries shall be serviceably sound in all Halter and<br />

performance classes.<br />

4. Stock type entries may be shown with natural, shortened<br />

or roached mane; natural or shortened tail. Braiding or<br />

banding is permitted.<br />

B. Stock Type Pony<br />

The Stock type <strong>Pinto</strong> Pony is a Western type Pony<br />

displaying the conformation associated with the Quarter<br />

type <strong>Horse</strong> and original style Shetland Pony.<br />

C. Hunter Type <strong>Horse</strong><br />

1. The accepted breeding of the Hunter type <strong>Pinto</strong> is an<br />

English <strong>Horse</strong> of predominantly Thoroughbred breeding<br />

and conformation. The “running style” Quarter <strong>Horse</strong> can<br />

also be found in this classification.<br />

2. Entries shall be serviceably sound in all halter and<br />

performance classes.<br />

3. Hunter type entries may be shown with natural or<br />

shortened mane and tail. Roached mane is discouraged<br />

and may be penalized at the judge’s discretion. Braiding<br />

or banding in Halter is allowed. In performance classes,<br />

Hunter type entries may be braided according to the<br />

individual class specification.<br />

D. Hunter Type Pony<br />

The Hunter type <strong>Pinto</strong> Pony is a pony reflecting the<br />

conformation associated with a Thoroughbred type horse<br />

and Connemara Pony. Certain bloodlines of Welsh<br />
