g. Failure to enter, exit or work obstacle from correct side<br />

or direction.<br />

h. Failure to perform correct line of travel within or<br />

between obstacles.<br />

i. Third refusal, balk or attempt to evade an obstacle by<br />

shying or backing more than two (2) strides away.<br />

3. One-Half (1⁄2) Point Penalty<br />

Each tick of log, pole, cone or obstacle.<br />

4. One (1) Point Penalty<br />

a. Each hit of or stepping on a log, pole, cone or obstacle.<br />

b. Break of gait at walk or jog for two (2) strides or less.<br />

c. Both front or hind feet in a single-strided slot or space.<br />

d. Skipping over or failing to step into required space.<br />

e. Split pole in lope-over.<br />

5. Three (3) Point Penalty<br />

a. Break of gait at walk or jog for more than two (2)<br />

strides.<br />

b. Out of lead or break of gait at lope/cantor (except when<br />

correcting an incorrect lead).<br />

c. Knocking down an elevated pole, cone, barrel or plant<br />

obstacle or severely disturbing an obstacle.<br />

6. Three (3) to Five (5) Point Penalty (Depending on severity)<br />

Stepping outside the confines of, falling or jumping off<br />

an obstacle (back through, bridge, side pass, box, water<br />

box) with one foot.<br />

7. Five (5) Point Penalty<br />

a. Dropping slicker or object required to be carried on<br />

course.<br />

b. First refusal, balk or attempt to evade an obstacle by<br />

shying or backing more than two (2) strides away.<br />

c. Loss of control or letting go of gate.<br />

d. Stepping outside the confines of, falling or jumping<br />

off an obstacle (back through, bridge, sidepass, box,<br />

water box) with more than one (1) foot.<br />

8. Five (5) or more penalty points:<br />

a. Blatant disobedience (kicking out, biting, rearing,<br />

striking).<br />

b. Failure to ever demonstrate correct lead or gait if<br />

designated.<br />

c. Failure to complete obstacle.<br />

d. Second refusal, balk or attempt to evade an obstacle<br />

by shying or backing more than two (2) strides away.<br />

l5. yearling <strong>Horse</strong> or utility Trail in-Hand<br />

A. General<br />

Only Western Attire and Tack are permitted in this class.<br />

B. Exhibitor Requirements.<br />

1. Exhibitor must use only the right hand on the lead where<br />

the chain begins, and lead on the horse’s left side. A chain<br />

may be used under the chin or hanging from the halter.<br />

Leads may be used without chains. Exhibitor must use<br />

only the left hand to carry the excess lead, looped loosely<br />

except when:<br />

a. Carrying an object from one part of the arena to<br />

another.<br />

b. Dragging an object from one part of the arena to<br />

another.<br />
