7. Longe Line class will consist of two elements. The first
element is conformation and the second element of the
class is a longeing demonstration.
8. Scribes for each Judge should be used, if available.
B. Tack and Attire
1. Entries are to be shown in a halter, regular or show type,
English or Western and suitable for longeing.
2. The only attachment allowed to the halter is the longe
line, which may not exceed 30 feet in length with a snap
attached.
3. The longe line must hang free from the halter without
touching any part of the horse.
4. It is permissible to use a longe whip, but disqualification
will occur if the exhibitor blatantly strikes the horse with
the whip to cause forward or lateral movement at any time
during the longeing demonstration.
5. No other equipment is allowed on the horse during the
class. Mechanical or retractable longe lines are not
allowed.
6. The type of equipment used is not to be a consideration
in placing the horse as long as the equipment meets the
requirements stated above.
7. For the conformation inspection, a lead shank, such as
used in halter or showmanship classes may be exchanged
for the longe line prior to the longe line demonstration.
8. Proper Western or English Halter class attire is mandatory,
and must be consistent with whether the horse is being
shown as a Western or English entry.
C. Class Procedures
1. Conformation inspection will be the first element in Longe
line.
a. The Pinto is walked to the first cone and pause for
conformation inspection by Judge(s).
b. After inspection, the Pinto is trotted around second
cone and will proceed to the side of the arena.
c. Stop and return to end of arena to wait for longeing
demonstration.
d. Pintos that show evidence of lameness will be excused
prior to the longeing demonstration.
e. Pintos will not be allowed to show in illegal equipment
or if there is evidence of abuse, or inhumane treatment
or any rule violations.
2. The longe line demonstration element of this class will last one
and one-half minutes (90 seconds).
a. Time will start with an audible indicator when the Pinto has
reached the perimeter of it’s walking only circle.
b. The Pinto will be scored at all three gaits in both directions.
c. The exhibitor may begin work in the direction (counter or
clockwise) of their choice.
d. Half-way audible signal (45 seconds) is optional per
Show Management.
e. At the end of one and one-half minutes (90 seconds)
an audible indicator will signify the exhibitor and Pinto
need retire from the longeing area.
f. All entries are to remain in the arena after they have
been judged and should stand quietly while other
entries are being judged.
D. Judging
1. Judges will be outside of the longeing circle.
2. Entries are judged a maximum of eighty (80) points on
movement, manner/expression/attitude – ten (10) points,
conformation – twenty (20) points, suitable to purpose and
use of circle – three (3) points.
