F. Novice Amateurs are governed under the Amateur <strong>Association</strong><br />

<strong>Rule</strong>s and Regulations and are subject to review and<br />

disciplinary action as covered by these rules.<br />

G. Any Amateur who had previously advanced out of the Novice<br />

Amateur Program prior to 1/01/97 who now qualifies in any of<br />

the categories may re-apply for Novice Amateur status within<br />

the category(ies) in which he/she is eligible.<br />

V2. novice amateur Classes<br />

A. AM Novice Showmanship – English/Western<br />

1. To be judged on the same point or percentage basis as<br />

other PtHA Showmanship classes.<br />

2. Appointments and attire may be either English or Western,<br />

but must be consistent with Showmanship class rules.<br />

3. Judge may require exhibitor to perform a pattern.<br />

B. AM Novice Walk/Trot – English/Western<br />

1. <strong>Pinto</strong>s must walk and trot both ways of the ring.<br />

2. <strong>Pinto</strong>s may not lope/ canter.<br />

3. Entries may be required to back.<br />

4. Appointments and attire may be either English or Western,<br />

but must be consistent with style of riding.<br />

5. Chaps are optional to the Western exhibitor.<br />

6. Novice Amateurs exhibiting in a walk/trot class may not<br />

cross enter any class (Open, Amateur, or Novice Amateur)<br />

requiring a lope/canter at the same show.<br />

C. AM Novice English Pleasure/Ideal/Disciplined Rail (Hunter/<br />

Saddle Seats) – To be judged on the same basis as PtHA<br />

Hunter/Saddle Seat English Pleasure.<br />

D. AM Novice English Equitation (Hunter/Saddle Seats) – To be<br />

judged on the same basis as PtHA Hunter/Saddle Seat English<br />

Equitation.<br />

E. AM Novice Western Pleasure/Ideal/Disciplined Rail – To be<br />

judged on the same basis as PtHA Western Pleasure.<br />

F. AM Novice Western <strong>Horse</strong>manship – To be judged on the<br />

same basis as PtHA Western <strong>Horse</strong>manship.<br />

G. AM Novice Trail (English/Western) – To be judged on the same<br />

basis as PtHA Trail<br />

H. Other Novice classes as approved by PtHA to follow PtHA<br />

class specifications.<br />

V3. Points/awards<br />

A. Points in the Novice Program do not count toward any PtHA<br />

awards.<br />

B. ROM points and awards will not be presented in Novice<br />

Amateur classes.<br />

w1. age Requirements<br />

A. Youth Activities classes and events are open to persons 18<br />

years of age and younger.<br />

B. The age of the Youth on January 1 shall be maintained<br />

throughout the year. Persons born on January 1 shall assume<br />

the greater age on that date.<br />

C. Married and/or divorced contestants, regardless of age, are<br />

not eligible to participate in the YA program.<br />

D. PtHA may require that a copy of a birth certificate be submitted<br />

to verify the age eligibility of a Youth.<br />

w2. youth Divisions<br />

A. Youth classes may be divided by age of Youth on the following<br />

basis:<br />

1. 8 & Under Leadline<br />

2. 11 & Under Walk/Trot<br />

3. 13 & Under; 14-18<br />

4. 10 & Under; 11-13; 14-18<br />
