B. Gaits<br />

1. All gaits to be performed both ways of the ring and are<br />

to be collected and balanced, with high action, brilliance<br />

and presence. High head carriage and great elevation<br />

of knees and hocks are normal. Knee flexion should be<br />

proportionate to hock flexion. The animal’s energy should<br />

be directed toward animation rather than speed.<br />

a. Walk: Collected, animated, brisk, with four beats, need<br />

not be flat-footed.<br />

b. Park Trot: Animated, balanced two beat gait with<br />

cadence.<br />

C. Judging<br />

1. To be judged on performance, manners, quality,<br />

conformation and suitability.<br />

2. Faults would include: stiff or choppy gaits; dragging hocks;<br />

unbalanced action; crooked or sideways movement.<br />

3. Extreme speed to be penalized.<br />

P4. ideal <strong>Pinto</strong> Driving<br />

A. General<br />

1. The Ideal <strong>Pinto</strong> Driving class is a performance event<br />

which is unique to the <strong>Pinto</strong> breed. This class displays the<br />

balance required of a Pleasure Driving <strong>Pinto</strong> which also<br />

exhibits good conformation and exceptional markings.<br />

2. To be shown in an appropriate two or four-wheel vehicle.<br />

3. <strong>Horse</strong> Ideal Driving may be combined by types.<br />

4. Pony Ideal Driving may be combined by types.<br />

5. Miniature A & B Ideal Driving may be combined.<br />

6. Entries to stand quietly and back readily.<br />

7. All <strong>Pinto</strong>s to be stripped and judged on conformation and<br />

color after driving work is completed.<br />

8. To be judged 50 percent on performance and manners,<br />

25 percent on conformation, and 25 percent on <strong>Pinto</strong><br />

Markings.<br />

9. Whips and crops for the halter judging are optional for<br />

<strong>Horse</strong> and Pony Ideal Driving, and must be correct for<br />

the type of <strong>Pinto</strong> shown. No whips with appendage will be<br />

allowed.<br />

B. Ideal <strong>Pinto</strong> Driving Class Performance<br />

1. To enter the ring at a normal trot<br />

2. To be shown at a flat-footed walk, a normal trot and a<br />

strong trot, both ways of the ring.<br />

3. Extreme speed to be penalized.<br />

C. Ideal <strong>Pinto</strong> Grooming<br />

1. Grooms/attendants are to be appropriately attired. Refer to<br />

<strong>Rule</strong> G8.<br />

2. Each Exhibitor may have up to two (2) grooms/attendants<br />

to assist with stripping the <strong>Pinto</strong> of harness and vehicle,<br />

and grooming.<br />

3. Grooms/attendants shall wait at the gate until the<br />

announcer indicates that the judge(s) have directed the<br />

grooms/attendants to enter the ring.<br />

4. Grooms/attendants are to walk to the Exhibitor and<br />

wait until the announcement is made to start grooming.<br />

The Exhibitor will remain seated in the vehicle until the<br />

announcer calls for grooming to begin.<br />

5. Time limit for grooming/striping is two (2) minutes.<br />

6. Vehicle is to be removed from the <strong>Pinto</strong> prior to the<br />

removal of the bridle or reins. Failure to do so will result in<br />

immediate disqualification.<br />

7. <strong>Pinto</strong>s are not be re-harnessed in the ring.<br />

8. Entries may be shown in-hand, with either the headstall or<br />

a suitable halter, without penalty.<br />
