the exhibitor to rope the animal without attempting to leave<br />

the barrier (box), shall be considered a disqualification. At the<br />

judge’s discretion, a rerun may be given if the animal being<br />

roped leaves the arena or in the event of a malfunction of the<br />

chute or barrier.<br />

F. Scoring – Entries will be scored on a point basis of 0 to<br />

100 with 70 points denoting an average performance. Each<br />

maneuver will be scored from a plus three to a minus three, in<br />

½ point increments.<br />

1. The tie-down roping horse will be judged on four different<br />

maneuvers:<br />

a. Box and barrier.<br />

b. Running and rating.<br />

c. Stop.<br />

d. Working the rope.<br />

2. The following deductions will result:<br />

a. One (1) Point.<br />

Dragging the calf while being tied, deduct one point<br />

for each three feet moved up to 12 feet.<br />

b. Two (2) Point.<br />

(1) Freeze-up in the box (refusing to move).<br />

(2) Jumping the barrier.<br />

(3) Setting up or scotching.<br />

(4) Rubbing the rope.<br />

(5) Failure to continue backing while roper is flanking<br />

the calf.<br />

(6) Slack in the rope.<br />

c. Three (3) Point.<br />

A two loop run.<br />

d. Five (5) Point.<br />

(1) Refusing to enter the box.<br />

(2) Rearing in the box.<br />

(3) Breaking the barrier.<br />

(4) Running into the calf.<br />

(5) Dragging the calf, after the calf is tied, from six to<br />

12 feet (special consideration should be given for<br />

excessive movement of the calf after the calf is<br />

tied).<br />

(6) <strong>Horse</strong> walking up the rope (rope on the ground).<br />

(7) Blatant disobedience including kicking, biting,<br />

bucking, rearing and striking.<br />

e. Disqualified (0) – Score.<br />

(1) Failure of calf to stay tied until roper has<br />

remounted and ridden forward to loosen rope.<br />

(2) Excessive schooling at any time in the arena.<br />

(3) Whipping or hitting the horse with the rope.<br />

(4) Initiating the run with the rope on the opposite<br />

side of the horse’s neck than exhibitors roping<br />

hand.<br />

(5) Dragging the calf, while being tied or after the calf<br />

is tied, more than 12 feet.<br />

(6) Any attempt by the contestant to position a horse<br />

behind the barrier enabling the contestant to rope<br />

the animal without attempting to leave the box.<br />

f. The following shall be faults scored according to<br />

severity:<br />

(1) Jerking the reins.<br />

(2) Slapping.<br />

(3) Jerking the rope or any unnecessary action to<br />

enhance the performance of the horse or talking<br />

or any noise-making.<br />

(4) Turning around in the box.<br />

(5) Turning head severely.<br />
