f. In-and-out must never be placed at the beginning of<br />
the course.<br />
g. Courses should be tried out so as not to make turns<br />
too sharp for an exhibitor or <strong>Pinto</strong>.<br />
h. In-and-out is considered one obstacle and scored as such.<br />
2. Course Performance<br />
a. Hunters must demonstrate at least one, but no more<br />
than four, changes of direction.<br />
b. Charging fences, or not maintaining the same gait<br />
throughout the entire course shall be penalized.<br />
c. Upon completion of the entire class over jumps,<br />
finalists will be trotted past the judge(s) for soundness<br />
check but not be required to re-jump the course.<br />
d. Refusal of one element of an in-and-out requires the<br />
retaking of both elements.<br />
3. Scoring<br />
a. Major faults to be considered are: knockdowns,<br />
touches, refusals, bucking or kicking, spooking or<br />
shying, showing obstacle to <strong>Pinto</strong>, or wringing tail.<br />
b. Elimination<br />
(1) Three (3) Refusals<br />
(2) Off course<br />
(3) Crossing your own path<br />
(4) Fall of <strong>Pinto</strong> or exhibitor<br />
(5) Jumping of obstacle by exhibitor<br />
(6) Carrying of whip<br />
(7) An unsound <strong>Pinto</strong><br />
(8) Jumping of obstacle before being reset.<br />
4. Tack and Attire<br />
Exhibitor foot wear is optional.<br />
Q2. Jumping, <strong>Horse</strong><br />
A. Open jumping is offered only as an all-age class.<br />
B. Arena Arrangement:<br />
1. There will be a minimum of four (4) obstacles; <strong>Pinto</strong>s are<br />
required to jump a minimum of eight (8) jumps.<br />
2. A spread fence consisting of two (2) or more elements is<br />
mandatory.<br />
3. It is recommended the first obstacle be no more than<br />
minimum height.<br />
4. Optional obstacles may include:<br />
a. Post and Rail (at least two)<br />
b. Chicken Coop<br />
c. Stone Wall<br />
d. Triple Bar<br />
e. Brush Jump<br />
5. Both a starting line at least 12 feet (3.6 meters ) in front<br />
of the first obstacle, and a finish line at least 24 feet (7.3<br />
meters) beyond the last obstacle must be indicated by<br />
markers (at least 12 feet (3.6 meters) apart) at each end of<br />
the lines. <strong>Horse</strong> must start and finish by passing between<br />
markers.<br />
6. Obstacles, except within combinations, should be located<br />
a minimum distance of forty-eight (48) feet (14.6 meters)<br />
apart, size of arena permitting.<br />
7. Height of obstacles must be a minimum of three feet, six<br />
inches (3’6”) and a maximum of four feet (4) (122 cm) in<br />
first go-round, except in youth and amateur, which is a<br />
minimum of three feet, three inches (3’3”) (99 cm) and a<br />
maximum of three feet, six inches (3’6”) (105 cm).<br />
C. Jump-offs will be held over the original course altered as<br />
outlined.<br />
1. In a jump-off, the sequence of obstacles may be in any<br />
order as long as the original direction is maintained.<br />
