(4) Twisted wire and roller bits are prohibited.<br />

(5) Ported snaffles are prohibited.<br />

b. Training through Fourth Levels – A plain snaffle bridle<br />

is required with either a regular cavesson, a dropped<br />

noseband, a flash noseband, a crossed noseband, or<br />

a crescent noseband.<br />

c. Optional at Third and Fourth Levels (mandatory at FEI<br />

Levels) – A simple double bridle (bradoon, curb bit,<br />

curb strap made of rubber, chain, or leather, and a lip<br />

strap.<br />

F. <strong>Pinto</strong>’s Appearance<br />

1. Any decoration of the horse with unnatural items, such<br />

as ribbons or flowers, etc. in the tail or mane, is strictly<br />

forbidden.<br />

2. Braiding of the <strong>Pinto</strong>’s mane and tail is permitted.<br />

3. False tails are permitted and if used may not contain any<br />

metal parts.<br />

4. <strong>Pinto</strong>s may be shown shod or barefoot.<br />

G. Attire<br />

1. Training through Fourth Levels<br />

a. A short riding coat of conservative color, with a tie,<br />

choker, or stock tie, white or light colored breeches or<br />

jodhpurs, boots or jodhpur boots, a hunt cap or riding<br />

hat with a hard shell, derby or top hat.<br />

b. Gloves of conservative color are recommended.<br />

c. Children under twelve (12) may wear jodhpurs and<br />

jodhpur boots in place of breeches and boots.<br />

2. All Tests above Fourth Level<br />

a. A dark tailcoat with top hat, or a dark jacket with a<br />

bowler hat or hunt cap, and white or light colored<br />

breeches, stock or tie, gloves, and black riding boots.<br />

b. Spurs are mandatory for FEI tests.<br />

3. Any Level<br />

Any competitor may wear a helmet at any level without<br />

penalty.<br />

H. Arena<br />

1. Arena measurements are for the interior of the enclosure.<br />

2. The arena should be on as level ground as possible.<br />

a. Standard Arena – 60 meters (198’) long and 20<br />

meters (66’) wide. (First Level Test 2 and above<br />

including musical freestyles must be performed in the<br />

Standard Arena. (Exception: Those tests written for a<br />

small arena.))<br />

b. Small Arena – 40 meters (132’) long and 20 meters<br />

(66’) wide. (Training Level tests through First Level<br />

test 1 may be ridden in the small arena.)<br />

3. The enclosure itself should consist of a low fence about<br />

0.3 meters (1’) high.<br />

a. The fence should be such to prevent the horse’s<br />

hooves from becoming entangled and arena stakes, if<br />

used, must be covered with a ball or similar object so<br />

as to prevent injury. Rope, concrete, or unbreakable<br />

chain fencing is not allowed.<br />

b. The part of the fence at A should be easy to remove to<br />

let the competitors in and out of the arena in a suitable<br />

way.<br />

c. The letters outside the arena should be placed about<br />

0.5 meters from the fence and clearly marked.<br />

d. The letter A should be placed at least 5 meters away<br />

from the arena.<br />

e. Location of the Judge (Jury) and scribe – should be a<br />

maximum of 5 meters and a minimum of 3 meters from<br />

the end of the arena and must be opposite the letter C.<br />
