C. Overo (O-vair’-o)<br />

1. Head Color Characteristics<br />

a. Usually white as in a “bald-faced, apron-faced, bonnetfaced”<br />

b. Eyes are often blue<br />

c. Can have a pigmented upper lip<br />

2. Body Color Characteristics<br />

a. Can be predominantly dark<br />

b. Color surrounds the centered white on body and neck<br />

c. Does not usually cross the top line<br />

3. Body White Characteristics<br />

a. White markings are scattered and/or splashed<br />

b. White markings are irregular<br />

c. White is on the middle and sides of body and neck<br />

d. Does not usually cross back between withers and tail<br />

4. Leg Color Characteristics<br />

a. Usually one leg is dark<br />

b. All four legs can be dark<br />

c. Dark legs can also have typical minimal white<br />

5. Color/White Edges<br />

a. Crisp delineation between colored spots and white<br />

b. Can have pigmented skin between the white and color,<br />

covered with white hair just at the boundary<br />

6. General Characteristics<br />

a. Tail is usually one color<br />

b. Overo includes the “frame overo, sabino overo and<br />

splashed white overo”<br />

C6. Coat Colors<br />

Bay, Bay Roan, Black, Blue Roan, Brown, Buckskin,<br />

Champagne, Chestnut, Cremello, Dun, Gray, Grulla,<br />

Palomino, Perlino, Red Dun, Red Roan, Seal Brown, Silver<br />

Dapple, Sorrel<br />

C7. Breeding Restrictions<br />

A. General<br />

1. Any animal with Appaloosa or mule breeding and/<br />

or characteristics, as well as those with any draft<br />

characteristics or known draft breeding within the previous<br />

four generations are NOT eligible for registration with the<br />

exception of horses eligible for the Utility Division.<br />

2. Any <strong>Pinto</strong> developing such characteristics after registration<br />

is subject to cancellation of Registration Certificates.<br />

3. PtHA registration will be canceled and certificate<br />

considered null and void on those <strong>Pinto</strong>s which are found,<br />

after registration, to have met any of these criteria.<br />

4. Progeny of these animals will be additionally subject to<br />

possible review and cancellation.<br />

5. There will be no refunds of any fees paid in conjunction with<br />

the registration of these animals.<br />

C8. Classification and Height Requirements<br />

A. General<br />

All <strong>Pinto</strong>s must be registered in the same division as their<br />

parentage. If <strong>Pinto</strong> reaches a mature age of five (5) years old<br />

and shows 3 years of documented non-growth, the animal is<br />

eligible to be reclassified to it’s respective division regardless<br />

of parentage.<br />
