HOKE: You is rich, Miz Daisy!
DAISY: No I’m not! And nobody can ever say I put on airs. On
Forsyth Street we only had meat once a week. We
made a meal off grits and gravy, I taught the fifth grade
at the Crew Street School! I did without plenty of times.

HOKE: And now you doin’ with. What so terrible in that?
DAISY: You! Why do I talk to you? You don’t understand me.
HOKE: Nome, I don’t. I truly don’t. Cause if I ever was to get
ahold of what you got I be shakin’ it around for
