parting sequences. Further investigations by separating groups within the national
groups before comparing them could be useful.
Concerning the nonverbal behaviour, we discovered a noticeable difference
that should be investigated deeper, taking into consideration the different
strategies of chatters and comparing them – perhaps with a quantities study in
order to comprehend the extent of difference.
After the summing-up, we come to the conclusion that differences between
the nations are not as large as one might have thought. The differences are slight
in some aspects and a little bit larger in other aspects, but the tendency is towards
a similar behaviour in chat rooms. Both nations have adapted to a cultural
behaviour on the Internet that is regulated by netiquettes and the restrictions of
electronic communication. The culture of the Internet has a stronger influence on
the behaviour of the chatters than their own culture. Thus, we come to the
conclusion that on the Internet a new culture has formed, easily accessible from a
random part of the world.
