fa bene e rende tutto più divertente: molto di
più di cento set in tv, che sia una fiction, uno
spot o un varietà. Lo sanno i grandi divi di Hollywood,
che ogni tanto tornano in teatro per
“depurarsi” e ritornare a vivere una recitazione
primordiale, e lo sapevamo noi del Trio anche
quando eravamo fissi in Rai.
Gli uomini di televisione spesso sono così: ci
lavorano ma ne parlano male.
Il problema della tv è il suo demone: l’auditel. È
innaturale fare uno show in prima serata, far ridere
la platea dello studio e poi esser sicuro di
essere andato bene e aver fatto divertire il pubblico
solo il giorno dopo. In televisione capisci di
aver emozionato in differita, è irreale.
Parliamo di colleghi del piccolo schermo. Cosa
guarda in tv? Chi sono i più bravi?
Io guardo la tv dei ricordi, della storia, dei canali
tematici, dei vecchi film. Solo Fiorello e Guzzanti
sono davvero bravi, e infatti bisogna scovarli
tra i palinsesti delle satellitari. A tutto il
resto preferisco un Walter Chiari d’annata.
E la sua SSttrriisscciiaa llaa nnoottiizziiaa, che ha condotto
per tre edizioni? È solo più uno “strumento
del padrone” o ha ancora un po’ di quella vena
di ddeebboorrddiissmmoo con cui demoliva il mondo
della tv dal suo interno?
Non la seguo da tanto. Non ha più l’impatto
eversivo di una volta, quello forse ce l’hanno Le
Iene. Lo spettatore si è abituato, è diverso da
quello degli anni Ottanta e Novanta. Però non è
neanche uno strumento di potere, è ancora autonoma.
Conosco bene Antonio Ricci: al primo
condizionamento dell’editore avrebbe smesso
all’istante.
E a proposito di comici liguri: il suo concittadino
Beppe Grillo?
Beppe ha smesso di ridere: non è più un comico,
è un arringatore politico. Lo dico con profondo
rispetto per quello che dice e per tutto il
marcio che denuncia. Forse farei con tempi e
modi diversi, ma la penso allo stesso modo, e
menomale che c’è lui: siamo un paese con l’opinione
pubblica un po’ addormentata, per non
dire di peggio.
Addormentata dalla tv?
Anche e soprattutto, e tanto. In fondo siamo
governati (male) da un uomo di televisione: tutto
torna.
A forza di guardare la tv ci si addormenta, tutto
diventa digeribile, accettabile. Ma questi sono
i tempi giusti per una rivoluzione: la speranza
sono i ragazzi che non stanno davanti alla tv
e vogliono cambiare. Senza violenza, ma con la
forza della cultura e delle idee.

know that it really went off well and that you really
entertained the public, only the day after. With TV you
have deferred emotions; it is unreal.
Let’s talk about your colleagues on the small screen.
Who do you watch? Who are the best?
I watch old TV: memories, history, theme channels, old
films. Only Fiorello and Guzzanti are really good, and you
have to dig them out of the satellite schedules. As for
the rest, I prefer an old Walter Chiari.
And what about the satirical TV show, “Striscia la
Notizia”, where you were the host three times? Is it
just another “instrument” of the powers that be or
does it still have that rejuvenating force that
changes the television world from the inside?
I don’t follow it all that much, but it no longer has that
subversive impact it once had. Perhaps the baton has
passed to “Le Iene” (The Hyenas). The audience is now
used to it. The show is different from that of the eighties
and nineties. But it is not an instrument of those in
charge. It is still independent. I know Antonio Ricci well -
at the first sign of being told what to say, he would quit
in an instant.
And speaking of Ligurian comedians, what do you
think about Beppe Grillo?
Beppe has stopped laughing. He is no longer comic. He
harangues politicians. I say this with deep respect for
what he says about all the rotten things around us that
he denounces. Perhaps I would do the same, using a
different time scale and different methods, but I feel the
same as he does. And I am thankful that he exists. We
are a country where public opinion is asleep, to put it
mildly.
Asleep because of television?
That too, and above all, so much. After all
we are governed (badly) by a man of
the TV – it all comes together. The TV
puts you to sleep, everything
becomes digestible,
acceptable. But these
are times for
revolution, and I hope
that youths are not in
front of the TV, and
that they want
change. Without
violence, but by
using the force
of ideas and of
culture.
