Peccati di gola
a Ponente
The Pleasures of the Table in the West
panna d’estate e cioccolata calda d’inverno.
Baselitz porta la famiglia a fare colazione la
mattina.
Pertini, Fausto Coppi, Armando Testa, grandi attori
e cantanti lirici. È passato anche Italo Calvino
ancora sanremese.
Alternativa:
Luciano Berio would have a granita al caffè (iced
coffee) with whipped cream in the summer, and
hot chocolate in the winter. Baselitz brings the
family to breakfast in the morning. And before them
were the locals at the Caffè Pasticceria Piccardo in
great writers and opera singers. Even Italo Calvino came
by, when he was still a Sanremo resident.
Anecdotes do not count. In the last century, the heart of
life in this provincial capital was at the café – the place
where business was done, where alliances were made,
and, this is the essential key, the place where traditional
pandolce (sweet bread) could be bought, along with
pinolate and gubeletti filled with marmelade.
On foot (rigorously), from Piccardo’s – Piazza Dante –
we head for the sea, where, among those fascinating
little bars and restaurants on the
wharves, we choose without
hesitation Agrodolce, who boasts
a Michelin one star, and whose chef,
Andrea Sarri, is the new man who
advances and does not intend to
stop. Alternative: Sale fino,
always on the quay, where even
the Gorlero experiment is
in an elegant
environment with good
