Lo slow food inventato per abitudine quando
mancavano secoli a che qualcuno lo chiamasse
così. Il fish and chips, in contemporanea,
tutto il mondo come creazione made in England.
nei suoi banchetti allestiti ogni volta all’ombra
food” (the opposite of fast food) was a
habit in Genoa centuries before it was given
“Slow
today’s label. The British fish and chips
happened to be invented at the same time, certainly
well before the formula became known across the
world as a Made in England creation. This statement,
absolutely true and unassailable, is given to us by
Gilberto Turbiani, who is the founder of the
Gastronomadi (gastronomy nomads) movement –
which promotes and adds value to eating while
strolling – in addition to being the haughty and
learned vendor at his outdoor slow food stalls each
weekend in the shadow of frescoed Palazzo San
Giorgio. A theory, as we were saying, which seems to
discover the obvious, but to which few ever paid
attention.
In reality, Genoa’s countless historic firsts (Genoa was
the first in the world to invent promissory notes, the
first to invent the banking system, the coining of
currency, the modern lottery game, not to mention
the first town in Italy to import the English game of
football) are all still strongly rooted under the
Sottoripa medieval arcades and porticos along the old
port – which today has been upgraded, even in name,
The Sea in a Paper Wrapper
According to Gilberto Turbiani – founder of the Gastronomadi (gastronomy-nomad) movement which promotes
“slow food” (as opposed to fast food) – before the era of fish and chips, eating on the run – that is, the crunching
of fried fish and French fries while strolling along the harbor – was first invented in Genoa
