Campioni di pesto crescono.
Nel mondo
Pesto Globetrotters
In Norway as in Japan, in Ecuador as in Canada, the elimination rounds for the
World Championships for Genoese Mortar-made Pesto have become important local
events. The winning contenders will face the finals in Genoa on March 17, 2012.
In the meantime, the sales of Italian marble mortars are up 25%
Governo Nazionale. A Sapporo, capitale dell’Hokkaido
nel Mondo organizza allenamenti durante l’anno;
in California dove finalmente hanno capito a cosa servono
(molti americani possiedono mortai comprati in
Toscana come souvenir); in Canada, perché a Toronto
inclusi) come d’incanto.
e calorosa. A New York il Campionato ormai
Columbus Day, perfino i firefighters americani supportati
A Lione in Francia, su invito
In Norway, the Norwegian Pesto Champion received her
award directly from the hand of the Minister of Health.
In Sapporo, the capital of Hokkaido, the northernmost
province of Japan, they chose two in the morning as the
time for their “pesto made with a mortar” competition so
that Europe – connected via Skype – could be watching!
Stocks of championship mortars are carefully kept in
Ecuador, where the Association of Ligurians in the World
organizes training sessions during the year. And in
California, where they have finally understood what a
mortar is used for (many Americans own mortars bought
in Tuscany purely as an interesting souvenir). In Canada,
where every 15 th of August they make pesto in mortars in
Toronto’s splendid Boyd Park. And in Holland, where a very
active gourmet group has been preparing for several years
now to face the final challenge (in Genoa on March 17,
2012). In La Boca de Buenos Aires, Argentina, on the
occasion of the great Pesto Made with a Mortar
Competition, the quarter comes to a standstill (tangueros
included) as if under an enchantment. In Moscow, the
cool temperatures did not stop the warm participation in
the event. In New York the Championship now feels
totally at home between contests, demonstrations,
cooking schools, and associations of sustainable tourism.
To celebrate Columbus Day, even the New York firefighters
are fielding a team backed by members of the Genoese
Fire Department to see who can make the best pesto. In
Lyon in France, upon invitation by the Municipalité
Lyonnaise, the qualifying round for the World
