The Oder Estuary - IOW

The model covers major internal nutrient transformation processes: phytoplankton growth
(nutrient uptake) and its mortality, sedimentation of phytoplankton and detritus, mineralization of
nutrients and denitrification of nitrogen in the sediment as well as burial of nutrients in the
sediment (Figure 2.1). The model is driven by seasonal changes of light and water temperature and
the nutrient loads from rivers. Since all measurements of water flow and nutrient concentrations in
the Oder River are conducted over 60 km above the point where the riverine waters actually enter
the Lagoon (Gozdowice, Krajnik Dolny) (Figure 1.1), loads of nutrients from the immediate
drainage basin of the Lagoon are also taken into account.
