Erfindungen haben bei FEIN Tradition
Seit 1895 haben Innovationen auf dem Gebiet
der Elektrowerkzeuge eine feste Adresse:
Die C. & E. FEIN GmbH aus Schwäbisch
Gmünd-Bargau ist der Erfinder des
weltweit ersten Elektrowerkzeugs.
19. Jahrhundert. Zahlreiche Erfindungen wie elek-
FEIN - a history marked
by invention
Since 1895, one company has been more closely linked
to power tool inventions than any other. C. & E.
FEIN GmbH, based in Schwäbisch Gmünd-Bargau,
Germany, invented the world‘s first ever power tool.
This long-standing company is just one of those who
shape the image of Baden-Württemberg as a state of
hard workers and keen thinkers.
It all started in 1867 when Wilhelm Emil Fein founded
a workshop in Karlsruhe for the manufacture of physical
and electrical devices. The company quickly estab-
lished itself in the electrical engineering sector, one of
the most innovative industries of the 19th century. Fein
was responsible for numerous inventions such as electrical
telegraph devices, electro-medical equipment, fire
detectors, lighting systems and much more. Three years
later, the business moved to Stuttgart. The ambition of
the company‘s founder was its driving force. He wanted
to produce electric drives that were as small as possible
in order to make them more efficient and versatile.
In 1895 FEIN entered engineering and industrial history
when it invented the first power tool. Two young
mechanics, whose spirits were dampened by the prospect
of having to drill a never-ending number of holes
trische Telegraphenapparate, elektro-medizinische
Vorrichtungen, Feuermeldeanlagen, Beleuchtungsanlagen
by hand, attached a chuck to a small handheld electric
motor and that was that. Emil Fein, the eldest son of
the founder, immediately saw the market potential of
this improvised solution and developed the world‘s first
handheld drill with electric motor on this basis. It weigh-
ed 7.5 kg and could drill 4 mm. An original can still be
seen today at the Deutsches Museum in Munich.
The success of the electric handheld drill paved the way
for other electric handheld tools from FEIN, all desig-
ned to relieve the work of tradesmen and industrial
users. The first handheld sander was launched in 1906,
followed in 1914 by the first electric hammer drill with
electro-pneumatic striking mechanism and the first
los.
Gleichstrom. Auch der erste Elektroschrauber sowie
1895: Die erste elektrische Handbohrmaschine /
the first electric hand drill
high-performance drill for AC and DC. The first electric
screwdriver, sheet metal shears and jigsaw also came
from FEIN. More recent times have also seen plenty
of innovation. In 1967 FEIN developed and patented
the forerunner of today’s MultiMaster, the first oscillating
delta sander. Today FEIN‘s inventions continue to
make the work of tradesmen and industrial customers
safer, faster and easier. For example the FEIN QuickIN
quick clamping system for keyless tool changes and the
click-stop coupling for dry wall screw guns with precise
and silent shutoff. FEIN how holds more than
800 active industrial property rights, including around
500 patents and patent applications. FEIN power tools
Hause FEIN.
oszillierenden Dreiecksschleifer. Auch FEIN Erfindungen
der jüngsten Zeit machen die Arbeit von
Handwerk- und Industriekunden immer sicherer,
schneller und komfortabler. Zum Beispiel das FEIN
QuickIN-Schnellspannsystem für den schlüssellosen
Werkzeugwechsel oder die Click-Stop-Kupplung für
Trockenbauschrauber mit präziser und geräuschloser
Abschaltung. FEIN besitzt heute mehr als 800 aktive
Schutzrechte, darunter circa 500 Patente beziehungsweise
Patentanmeldungen.
FEIN steht in intensivem Austausch
are robust, extremely reliable and designed for tough
continuous use in industry and manual trades. Each invention
focuses on the typical requirements of the user.
FEIN listens to the needs of industrial customers and
tradespeople, which enables the company to offer highly
relevant solutions for the metal, interior work and automotive
sectors. Take for example the FEIN stainless
steel range, which makes light work of all conceivable
challenges associated with machining stainless steel surfaces.
FEIN has put together sets of power tools and
accessories for the individual areas of use. A stainless
steel manual describes the individual steps. FEIN is now
more than 140 years old and enjoys the reputation of
