Mit Wachstumsdynamik und Innovationskraft
zum Erfolg: Die
Würth-Gruppe ist mit über 400
Gesellschaften ein weltweit aktives
Unternehmen.
Success through dynamic growth and innovative power.
That is what lies behind the Würth Group, a globally active
concern with more than 400 companies. Its companies are
divided into two units: companies belonging to the Würth
Line and Allied Companies. The origins of this global retailer
lie in the sale and distribution of assembly and fastening
materials. Indeed, Würth is world market leader in this
segment. Allied Companies are companies that operate as
retailers or production companies in related business areas
as well as financial service providers. The Allied Companies
also encompass the “Diversification” business units
– service enterprises in logistics, hotels and catering. The
Group’s strategy and further development are characterised
by shared core competencies and values. In particular the
The parent company of the Würth Group, Adolf Würth
town of Künzelsau in 1945. After the early death of his
father in 1945, Prof. Dr. h. c. mult. Reinhold Würth, the
present Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Würth
Group’s Family Trusts, took over the company. He is the visionary
who turned the screw business that started out with
sales of EUR 80,000 into a group of companies with sales
of EUR 7.52 billion in the financial year 2009.
The Würth Group has companies operating in 84 countries
and more than 61,000 employees worldwide. Despite the
Screws and much more
A company that started out as a retailer for screws quickly
developed over the years into a specialist in assembly technology.
Nowadays, the Würth Line range comprises more
than 100,000 products in the fastening and assembly technology
sector. The target group consists primarily of the
trades, but increasingly also medium-sized and major industrial
companies. More than three million customers worldwide
place their trust in direct sales – the group’s hallmark,
continually perfected by Reinhold Würth. “Don’t wait for
customers – go out and get them,” is the entrepreneur’s phi-
elektronische Bauteile, Finanzdienstleistungen
und Solarmodule. Das Handelsunternehmen
ist hoch innovativ: Rund 40 Prozent des Umsatzes
der Würth-Linie werden mit Produkten gemacht, die
nicht älter als fünf Jahre sind. Im Qualitätsbereich ist
Würth ganz oben angesiedelt: „Qualität schlägt Preis“
ist Reinhold Würths Credo.
Würth hat über 100.000 Produkte im Kernsortiment
Würth‘s core range consists of more than 100,000 products
losophy. Finding new ideas and solutions has been Würth’s
guiding principle right from the start.
In addition to the traditional product range – screws, screw
accessories, dowels, construction fittings, tools and chemical
products – the Allied Companies in the Würth Group
sell protective clothing, electrical installation materials, electronic
components, financial services and solar modules in
their own name. The retailer is highly innovative: some 40
per cent of sales in the Würth Line consist of products less
than five years old. Würth attaches huge importance to quality:
“Quality beats price” is Reinhold Würth’s motto.
“In helping others we shall help ourselves, for whatever
good we give out completes the circle and comes back
to us”
This is a rule that Reinhold Würth has followed throughout
his life. And spurred on by this thought, he has always wanted
others to share in his company’s successes. Inspired by
the conscious example of Prof. Reinhold Würth, active sup-
„Die Freude, die man gibt,
kehrt in‘s eigene Herz zurück“
port and sponsoring for initiatives in support of education
is right at the top of the Würth Group agenda. For Reinhold
Würth and his wife Carmen Würth, corporate responsibility
is not just a requirement but at the heart of the company’s
philosophy. Offering opportunities, helping individuals
to develop, and promoting growing mutual cooperation
between individuals and society, all come together under
one roof in the company’s commitment to the Charitable
Würth Trust, founded in 1987. Today the trust has capital
amounting to EUR 5 million. Sponsored projects include
the Baden-Württemberg Competence Centre for Economic
Education, the Reinhold-Würth University at Heilbronn
University in Künzelsau, the Freie Schule Anne-Sophie, the
Würth Prize of Jeunesses Musicales Germany and also the
Robert Jacobsen Prize.
In addition to the work of the trust, Würth is extensively
involved in art and culture, research and science, and education
and social work. The Würth Collection, currently encompassing
about 12,500 works, is housed in the company’s
„Seeing behind the mountains and around the corner“
Leaving the beaten track – that is one of the basic rules of
the company that was formulated by Reinhold Würth. If
we weigh up the many facets of his life’s work, we see a
man who is constantly the driving force behind important
initiatives, whose insights, advice, inspirational approach to
education and art, and commitment to society are all aimed
at keeping people’s minds open to new ideas. “Let people
experience what life is all about” is his wish. Two of his
books – written while he was a professor in the Interdisciplinary
Institute of Entrepreneurship at Karlsruhe University
(TH) – are characteristic. Roughly translated they are: “Who
dares? Starting a business in Germany”. And: “Entrepreneurship
in Germany, Ways into Responsibility”.
The titles are an indication of Würth’s humanity; “Dare to
act – but do so with a sense of social responsibility”.
