Dies erfordert zugleich immer auch menschliche
Wärme und Zuwendung sowie Toleranz und Respekt
im Umgang mit den Pflegebedürftigen. Es
geht hier nicht vorrangig um die großen Gesten,
sondern vor allem um die kleinen, einfühlsamen
Aufmerksamkeiten im Alltag. Gerade Achtsamkeit
und Einfühlsamkeit sind außerordentlich wichtige
Aspekte im Umgang mit Pflegebedürftigen, da diese
ihre Interessen nicht mehr selbst durchsetzen und
oftmals noch nicht einmal ihre Bedürfnisse selbst
zum Ausdruck bringen können.
Ein würdevolles Leben in den stationären Pflegeeinrichtungen
setzt auch voraus, dass den Pflegebedürftigen
dort ein individueller Rückzugsraum, eine
The values of human society must be the basis of
social policies and at the same time be cemented
in specialist concepts for care. It follows therefore
that in our plan for care given in care homes in
the Land, we, for example, will formulate not only
specialist objectives, but also a mission statement
based on our values.
This will state that the core objective of the care
supplied in care homes must be to pre-serve the dignity
of the people living there. This might include
respect for and acknow-ledgement of a person‘s
personality, orientation towards his or her life so
far and taking into consideration individual requirements,
habits and capabilities in structuring dayto-day
life in the home.
At the same time human warmth and attention,
tolerance and respect are always essential components
of interaction with a person requiring care. It
is not primarily an issue of grand gestures here, but
is more about ordinary small, thoughtful courtesies.
Attentiveness and sensitivity are extraordina-
geschützte Privatsphäre zur Verfügung steht. Deshalb
müssen die Heime entweder in Wohnungen
untergliedert werden oder allen Bewohnern ein
Einzelzimmer zur Verfügung stellen. Ich habe mich
nachdrücklich dafür eingesetzt, dass dieses Ziel in
unserem neuen Landesheimrecht verankert wird.
Respekt vor dem Alter bedeutet nicht zuletzt auch,
dass wir hilfe- und pflegebedürftige ältere Menschen
nicht ausgrenzen. Deshalb müssen die notwendigen
Dienstleistungen und Versorgungsangebote möglichst
wohnortnah verfügbar sein. Auch bei einem
stationären Hilfebedarf sollen pflegebedürftige
Menschen soweit wie möglich in ihrem vertrauten
Lebensumfeld verbleiben können.

A dignified life in a care home also requires that the
person has a space to which to with-draw, a protected
and private area. Therefore, the homes must
be divided into apartments or each resident must
have a single room. I have campaigned vigorously
for this objective to be enshrined in our new care
home legislation for the Land.
Respect for the elderly also means that we do not
marginalise older people who require help and
care. Therefore, the necessary services and care
packages must, if at all pos-sible, be available close
to their homes. Even when cared for in a home,
these people should be able to stay in their familiar
environment as far as possible. As the Minister for
Social Affairs, I have been particularly concerned
over the last few years that we create a community
Als Sozialministerin war es mir in den vergangenen
Jahren ein ganz besonders wichtiges Anliegen, dass
wir eine möglichst wohnortnahe, gemeinde- und
stadtteilbezogene Pflegeinfrastruktur schaffen.
Diesem Ziel sind wir auch ein gutes Stück näher
gekommen. Bei dem Blick auf die Älteren dürfen
wir selbstverständlich die Kinder und jungen Menschen
nicht aus den Augen verlieren. Gerade vor
dem Hintergrund der demografischen Entwicklung
gewinnt der Satz ‚Kinder sind unsere Zukunft‘ eine
neue Bedeutung. Wie Kinder die Familie und Erwachsene
wahrnehmen, welche Vorbilder sie haben
und welche Erfahrungen sie im Kindergarten und
in der Kindertagestätte erleben, beeinflusst ihre
Werteorientierung und spätere Lebenseinstellung
maßgeblich.
Denn Werte sind der innere Kompass auf dem
Weg durch das Leben. Und Wertebildung erfolgt im
Alltag und muss in alltägliche Lebensbezüge eingebettet
werden.
Baden-Württemberg ist ein WerteLand. Aber wir
dürfen diese Werte nicht für selbstverständlich halten.
Sie müssen gestärkt und verteidigt werden. Und
wir alle sind gefordert, nach den Werten zu leben,
die wir verkünden.

way towards achieving this objective.
As we concern ourselves with the elderly, we must
not neglect children and young people. Particularly
against the background of the demographic
development, the sentence that „children are our
future“‘ gains a new meaning. How children perceive
family and adults, the role models they have
and their experiences in kindergarten and in day
nurseries influ-ence their value orientation and
their attitude to life later on. Values are our inner
compass on our way through life. And values are
created in day-to-day life and must be embedded
in daily living.
Baden-Württemberg is a Land with values. However,
we must not take these values for granted.
They must be strengthened and defended. And we
must all live according to the values that we say
we have.

Wie eine Kutsche ohne Pferde muten die ersten Automobile
von Carl Benz und Gottlieb Daimler an.
1886 entwickelt, hat das Automobil 125 Jahre später
rund 500 Millionen Nachfolger.
Felix Hoffmann
Weidenrinde war schon in der Antike ein bekanntes
Schmerzmittel. Die reine Form der Acetylsalicylsäure
hat 1897 der Apotheker Felix Hoffmann erstmals hergestellt.
Seine Aspirin Tablette fand weltweite Verbreitung.
Albert Einstein
Raum und Zeit sehen wir seit Albert Einsteins Relativitätstheorie
neu. Den Physik-Nobelpreis erhielt er 1921
für die Erklärung des photoelektrischen Effekts, der zur
Begründung der Quantentheorie herangezogen wird.
Robert Bosch
Mit einer zündenden Idee machte Robert Bosch
die Benzinmotoren seiner Zeit wesentlich zuver-
lässiger. Die Magnetzündung kam 1902 zur Serienreife.

looked like horseless carriages. First developed in 1886, the
automotive vehicle 125 years later has an offspring of some
500 million.
A Swabian inventive craftsmen in Willow bark was a well
known pain killer even in ancient times. The pure form of
acetylsalicylic acid was first produced by apothecary Felix Hoffmann
in 1897. His aspirin pills were sold all over the world.
Space and time have never been the same since Albert Einstein
published his Theory of Relativity. He received the Nobel Prize
in Physics in 1921 for his discovery of the law of the photoelectric
effect which is applied to explain the quantum theory.
Robert Bosch’s sparking ideas added to the safety and reliability
of the gasonline engines of his day. The Bosch magneto went into
serial production in 1902.
