64,500 daltons, and a sugar content of 2.5%. It consists of an A-chain (MW 30,500) and
a B-chain (MW 33,500) linked by the disulphide bond. The terminal sugar of glycan in
the B-chain is a mannose residue. Porrectin is a potent inhibitor of eukaryotic protein
synthesis in the rabbit reticulocyte lysate system. The molecular mechanism of action
of porrectin on rat liver ribosomes was shown to be specific for RNA-N-glycosidase.
