pipe assembly (4) from the rear carburetor elbow to front<br />

carburetor tee. Install the fuel pipe union (9) in the fuel<br />

pump and connect fuel pipe assembly from fuel pump<br />

to carburetor tee.<br />

29. Install the throttle shaft assembly (12) to cylinder head<br />

by removing the four cylinder head bolts (11 and 18);<br />

place throttle shaft brackets (19) on cylinder head and<br />

reInstall head bolts, torquing to 65 ft. lbs.<br />

NOTE: If interference is caused by hanger on coil bracket<br />

(13), bend the hanger back to provide necessary clearance<br />

for throttle shaft.<br />

30. Install the rear air cleaner support bracket (17) under the<br />

cylinder head bolt as shown, and re-torque bolt.<br />

31. Install the 45° hose nipple provided in the kit in the<br />

cylinder head. Connect hose from Ranco valve to hose<br />

nipple and Install the heater outlet pipe from hose to<br />

water pump.<br />

NOTE: It may be necessary to increase the bend in the<br />

heater outlet pipe to allow hose to clear throttle return<br />

spring and rod.<br />

32. Install accelerator pedal link bellcrank assembly (23) to<br />

bellcrank shaft (21) on the engine block and hook-up<br />

throttle shaft operating rod assembly (22) from bellcrank<br />

to throttle shaft.<br />

36. Install air cleaners to front and rear carburetors and bolt<br />

to cleaner braces.<br />

Installation INSTRUCTIONS<br />

(5B MODELS)<br />

1. Follow steps 1 through 28 as outlined on the preceding<br />

pages covering 6B an d 7B Installation Instructions.<br />

2. Install the throttle shaft assembly (24) to cylinder head by<br />

removing the four cylinder head bolts shown in Figure<br />

101, placing throttle shaft brackets (25) on cylinder head<br />

and re-Installing head bolts, torquing to 65 ft. lbs.<br />

NOTE: If interference is caused by hanger on coil bracket<br />

(26), bend the hanger back to provide necessary clearance<br />

for the throttle shaft.<br />

3. Ins tall rear air cleaner support bracket (27) under the<br />

cylinder head bolt as shown and re-torque bolt.<br />

4. Install the 45° hose nipple, provided in the kit, in the<br />

cylinder head and tighten so nipple faces forward at<br />

approximately 15° above horizontal.<br />

5. Remove Ranco valve to heater core hose and valve to<br />

cylinder head hose and disconnect Ranco valve from<br />

firewall. Install the two spacers, provided in the kit, to<br />

the Ranco valve and reInstall valve to the firewall.<br />

33. Install linkage adjusting pin J-2544 through bellcrank<br />

lever and into hole in cylinder block provided for adjustment<br />

purposes. This pin serves to locate the bellcrank<br />

while rod adjustments are made.<br />

34. On cars not equipped with Overdrive transmission, the<br />

accelerator pedal stop must be shortened by cutting<br />

7/32" off end of the stop to permit wide open throttle.<br />

35. Follow adjustment procedure as outlined under Carburetor<br />

and Linkage Adjustments.<br />
