4 - 42 FUEL SYSTEM & EXHAUST<br />

4. Install both manifolds and carburetor on engine.<br />

REMOVAL:<br />

FRONT EXHAUST PIPE<br />

(8 Cylinder)<br />

1. Raise car and place stand jacks under the front and rear.<br />

2. Spread the locks and remove the two nuts attaching<br />

exhaust pipe flange to exhaust manifold.<br />

3. Remove exhaust pipe bracket at clutch bell housing.<br />

4. Remove oil pump heat shield attached to oil pan to gain<br />

more clearance for removal of pipe.<br />

5. Remove oil check light wire and bakelite plug from oil<br />

check valve.<br />

6. Remove gas line from carburetor to fuel pump.<br />

7. Remove vacuum line from carburetor to distributor.<br />

8. Remove distributor cap and wire to coil. Remove<br />

distributor.<br />

9. Remove exhaust pipe clamp at junction of front and rear<br />

exhaust pipes and disconnect from rear pipe.<br />

10. Remove the front exhaust pipe by pulling forward and<br />

up over the radiator.<br />

Installation:<br />

1. Install the new front exhaust pipe and Install clamp at<br />

junction with rear pipe. (Do not tighten bolts at this<br />

time.)<br />

2. Install the two bolts, nuts, and locks, through exhaust<br />

pipe flange to exhaust manifold. (Do not tighten bolts at<br />

this time.)<br />

3. Install exhaust pipe bracket at clutch bell housing.<br />

4. Now tighten bolts at connection to exhaust manifold<br />

and in clamp connecting front and rear pipes.<br />

5. Install the oil pump heat shield and insert the two cap<br />

screws in oil pan.<br />

6. Install oil check valve bakelite plug and connect oil<br />

check light wire.<br />

7. Install the distributor, distributor cap, and coil wires.<br />

8. Connect vacuum line from carburetor to distributor and<br />

check timing.<br />

9. Connect gas line from carburetor to fuel pump.<br />

10. Remove stand jacks and lower car.<br />

REMOVAL:<br />

FRONT EXHAUST PIPE<br />

(6 Cylinder)<br />

1. Raise car and place stand jacks under front and rear.<br />

2. Remove the two bolts attaching exhaust pipe flange to<br />

exhaust manifold.<br />

3. Re move bolt from bracket attaching exhaust pipe to<br />

engine support plate.<br />

4. Remove bolt and clamp at junction of front and rear<br />

exhaust pipes.<br />

5. Disconnect exhaust pipe and remove from under car.<br />

Installation:<br />

1. Install new front exhaust pipe from under car and connect<br />

at rear exhaust pipe, but do not tighten clamp.<br />

2. Install clamp at engine support plate but do not tighten.<br />

3. Connect exhaust pipe flange to exhaust manifold and<br />

tighten securely.<br />

4. Tighten clamp at junction of front and rear exhaust pipes,<br />

also at engine support plate.
