3. Wheels or tires out of true.<br />

4. Steering spindle bearings worn.<br />

5. Suspension arms bent or twisted.<br />

6. Unequal caster.<br />

7. Turning corner at high speeds and erratic driving.<br />

REMEDY:<br />

1. Inflate tires.<br />

2. Adjust tie rods to give proper toe-in and toe-out.<br />

3. Check tire and wheel statically and dynamically.<br />

4. Replace spindle pins and bushings as necessary.<br />

5. Replace suspension arms if these are bent or twisted. Do<br />

not attempt to straighten. Refer to Figure 19 for specifications.<br />

6. Adjust caster and camber. Pefer to specification page.<br />

CUPPED TIRES<br />

NOTE: Normal cupping of tires can be expected -- tires<br />

should be frequently interchanged on the car.<br />

CAUSE:<br />

1. Tires incorrectly inflated.<br />

2. Dragging brakes.<br />

3. Wheels, tires, or brake drums out of balance.<br />

4. Steering spindle bearings or wheel bearings worn or out<br />

of adjustment.<br />

5. Steering spindle, spindle support, or tie rods bent.<br />

CAUSE:<br />

CAR WANDER<br />

1. Low or unequal tire pressure.<br />

2. Steering gear or connections loose or worn.<br />

3. Steering gear or connections not properly lubricated or<br />

adjusted too tight.<br />

4. Steering spindle bearings worn.<br />

5. Wheels toe-in too much or toe-out in straight ahead position.<br />

6. Improper caster.<br />

7. Steering spindle or spindle pivot pin bent.<br />

8. Rear axle shifted.<br />

9. Front stabilizer not centralized.<br />

10. Steering gear not on high point.<br />

11. Tread better on rear tires than on the front.<br />

CAUSE:<br />

FRONT WHEEL SHIMMY OR<br />

ROAD SHOCK<br />

1. Low or unequal tire pressure.<br />

2. Steering connections worn or incorrectly adjusted.<br />

3. Wheels, tires, or brake drums out of balance.<br />

4. Incorrect or unequal caster.<br />

5. Shock absorbers not operating properly.<br />

6. Steering spindle or tie rods bent.<br />

7. Lack of lubrication.<br />

8. Eccentric or bulged tires.<br />

9. Front stabilizer not equalized.<br />

CAUSE :<br />

WHEEL TRAMP<br />

1. Wheels, tires, and brake drums may be out of balance.
