6. Connect the moulded hose provided in the k i t to the Ranco<br />

valve and heater inlet pipe. Install the straight length of hose<br />

provided in the, kit to the Ranco valve and cylinder head 45°<br />

nipple, routing the hose outside of the rear carburetor. ReInstall<br />

the heater outlet pipe and hose from the heater core to<br />

water pump.<br />

NOTE: It may be found necessary to increase the bend at the<br />

hose connection of the pipe to allow the hose to clear the<br />

throttle rod and return spring.<br />

7. It is necessary on early 5B cars having the wiper motor<br />

mounted to the right of center location, to re-locate the<br />

windshield wiper motor to the left of center to allow clearance<br />

for the rear air cleaner. This is accomplished by fabrication<br />

of a mounting bracket as shown in Figure 102. It is also<br />

necessary to provide new right and left windshield wiper<br />

pulley housing and cable assemblies, Part Nos. 233500 and<br />

233501, when this change is made.<br />

8. Install accelerator pedal link bellcrank assembly (28), Figure<br />

101, to bellcrank shaft on engine block and hook up throttle<br />

shaft operating rod assembly (29) from bellcrank to throttle<br />

shaft assembly (24).<br />

9. Follow adjustment procedure as outlined under Linkage<br />

and Carburetor Adjustments.<br />

10. Install air cleaners to front and rear carburetors and bolt to<br />

cleaner braces.<br />

CARBURETOR AND LINKAGE<br />

ADJUSTMENTS<br />

1. Install linkage adjusting pin J-2544-1 through pedal link<br />

bellcrank lever and into hole in cylinder block provided<br />

for adjustment purposes. On 5B Installations, adjust<br />

throttle shaft rod trunnion to show a dimension of<br />

1-25/32" from top face of bracket to center of clevis<br />

pin hole in cross shaft lever.<br />

2. Connect tachometer to distributor but before warming<br />

up engine, remove the clevis pins from the yokes<br />

at the ends of both throttle shaft t o carburetor rods.<br />

While holding the front carburetor fast idle cam in<br />

the "off" position, turn the throttle stop screw until it<br />

just touches the cam. Repeat with rear carburetor.<br />

3. Turn the idle mixture adjustment screws down until<br />

they are seated lightly and then back them out 1-1/4<br />

turns on 5B Models and 2 turns on 6B and 7B<br />

Models. Warm up the engine and bring the engine<br />

idle to 500 R.P.M. for Hydra-Matic transmissions,<br />

550 R.P.M. for standard transmissions and 575<br />

R.P.M. for overdrive transmissions, by turning the<br />

two throttle stop screws in or out equal amounts.<br />

Adjust the idle mixture adjustment screw on each<br />

carburetor t o get the maximum increase in idling<br />

speed and, if necessary, readjust the throttle stop<br />

screws to cut the idling speed down to the recommended<br />

R.P.M. When adjusting the idle speed, always<br />

turn each throttle stop screw an equal amount.<br />

4. Adjust front and rear throttle shaft to carburetor rod<br />

clevises so that clevis pins pass freely through clevis<br />

and cross shaft levers. Install clevis pins and clevis<br />

cotter pins.<br />

5. On cars equipped with Hydra-Matic transmissions,<br />

adjust throttle rod by disconnecting transmission<br />

throttle rod trunnion from accelerator pedal link<br />

bellcrank. Push rearward on transmission throttle<br />

rod to hold transmission T.V. lever against stop in<br />

transmission and adjust throttle rod trunnion so pin<br />

of trunnion slips freely into bellcrank. The throttle<br />

rod should then be shortened by 1/16" or 1-3/4 turns<br />

clockwise of the top trunnion jam nut. Lock this<br />

adjustment by tightening the lower jam nut against<br />

the trunnion.<br />

6. Remove the linkage adjusting pin J-2544-1.<br />

7. Adjust the length of the accelerator pedal to bellcrank<br />

rod to get 1/64" to 1/16" clearance between the<br />

pedal and the pedal stop at wide open throttle. On<br />

5B Models which do not have a pedal stop, adjust<br />

pedal rod to allow 1/4" clearance between pedal and<br />

floor mat at wide open throttle.
