18. Replace coolant and start engine.<br />

19. Adjust tappets (engine hot), Intake - .008; Exhaust - .010.<br />

20. Replace tappet covers and breather pipe.<br />

NOTE: Tighten breather pipe attaching screw to 2-3 ft.<br />

lbs.<br />

21. Replace fender side dust shield and rear inspection<br />

shield. (Tie cord of boot to front suspension).<br />

6. Install guide clamps, flat washers, lock-washers, and<br />

screws.<br />

7. Install valve springs and retainers.<br />

NOTE: Installation of valve springs on the 8 cylinder will<br />

be facilitated by the use of J-587-A Valve Spring Inserter.<br />

8. Install valves in sequence removed, compress springs,<br />

and Install valve keepers. (Valves should be checked for<br />

warpage and cracks and replaced as necessary).<br />

9. Install oil pump and connecting lines.<br />

10. Use new gasket, Install cylinder head (Tighten to 45-50<br />

lbs.).<br />

11. Install carburetor and accelerator linkage.<br />

12. Install radiator; connect hoses (Use <strong>Hudson</strong> Perfect<br />

Seal at all connections).<br />

13.Continuewith balance of cylinder head Installing operations<br />

as outlined in "Cylinder Head Installing".<br />

14. Check timing and Install distributor and cap.<br />

15. Install coil and coil bracket.<br />

16. Install fuel pump and connect oil lines.<br />

17. Install complete grille and baffles assembly and front<br />

bumper assembly by reversing procedure of removal.<br />

22. Install wheel and lower car.<br />

23. Connect hood prop to hood and align hood.<br />

Removal:<br />

CAMSHAFT<br />

(6 Cylinder)<br />

Perform operations under "8 cylinder Camshaft<br />

Removal" items 1 to 9 and 12 to 16 inclusive.<br />

Valve springs can be removed on the 6 cylinder engines<br />

by compressing the springs with a KMO-484 valve lifter<br />

and a suitable hook-type tool.<br />

NOTE: Tappets should be raised and secured by the use<br />

of spring type wood clothes pins or some other practical<br />

means, sufficiently to allow removal of the camshaft.<br />

Installation:<br />

To Install, reverse procedure of removal.<br />

(Cyl. Nos. 1 8: 6 TDC. No. 6 firing position)<br />

NOTE: Timing chain and sprockets should be Installed<br />

with #1 Piston on top dead center with marks<br />

on sprockets 14 pitches apart, Figure 44. Timing<br />

chain is not adjustable. Also see "Valve Timing".
