OVERDRIVE 9 - 15<br />
3. Install the ring gear (1), Figure 13 on the overdrive<br />
mainshaft (3) and lock it in place with the large snap ring<br />
(2).<br />
NOTE: To facilitate Installation of the main-shaft<br />
(output shaft) on the free wheeling cam rollers, insert the<br />
free wheeling rollers in the cam roller retainer cage, using<br />
heavy grease to hold them in position. Then, with the<br />
low gear of the transmission engaged, turn the cage and<br />
rollers counter-clockwise until the rollers are in their low<br />
positions, and snap a tight fitting rubber band around<br />
them. Install the output shaft and ring gear on the pinion<br />
cage and free wheeling clutch cam and roller unit assembly,<br />
turning the shaft to the left as it assembles over the<br />
clutch rollers Figure 25.<br />
Insert J-4149 O.D. Aligning Pilot in lower right hand hole<br />
of adaptor and housing while tightening the other three<br />
Overdrive to transmission case bolts. Tighten all 4 bolts to<br />
20-30 ft. lbs. torque.<br />
6. Install control shaft locating pin, large end up.<br />
7. Install control switch, governor pinion, and governor<br />
switch.<br />
8. Install companion flange, washer, and nut. Tighten nut to<br />
90-100 lbs. torque.<br />
9. Add lubricant to get proper level in both transmission and<br />
O.D. units.<br />
SERVICING UNITS THAT REQUIRE<br />
REMOVAL OF COMPLETE<br />
ASSEMBLY<br />
REMOVAL: (Single Lever Type )<br />
1. Remove front seat cushion.<br />
2. Remove the four bolts attaching the bottom of front seat<br />
frame to seat track. Remove two screws attaching seat<br />
adjusting lever to seat frame and remove seat back from<br />
car.<br />

Installation<br />
1. Remove bolt holding adaptor to transmission case.<br />
2. Install overdrive to adaptor gasket.<br />
3. Install overdrive case.<br />
4. With the control switch removed, insert a long thin drift<br />
through the housing at the control switch opening to line<br />
up the retractor spring and the overdrive shift rail.<br />
5. While case is being Installed, push the control shaft<br />
inward and engage the slot in the shift rail with the shifter<br />
shaft lug. ( Lug must be up and outside control lever<br />
down.)<br />
3. Disconnect accelerator pedal at accelerator rod.<br />
4. Remove foot brake pedal rod from brake lever.<br />
5. Pull the steering column hole rubber grommet up out of<br />
the way.<br />
6. Remove the floor mat.<br />
7. Remove <strong>Hudson</strong> Weather Control b1ower unit held by<br />
four screws, (2 each side). Disconnect cable at Ranco<br />
weather control valve.<br />
8. Disconnect plug at overdrive kickdown switch.<br />
9. Release speedometer cable from clip on under side of floor<br />
opening cover.
