9 - 16 OVERDRIVE<br />
10. Remove the floor opening cover over the transmission.<br />
11. Raise car, place on stand jacks.<br />
12. Drain transmission and overdrive units.<br />
13.Disconnect wires at governor switch, solenoid, and<br />
overdrive control switch (located at left rear side of<br />
overdrive case).<br />
14. Disconnect speedometer cable and remove speedometer<br />
driven gear.<br />
15. Disconnect overdrive control cable from overdrive shift<br />
shaft lever.<br />
16. Disconnect the front universal joint at transmission.<br />
Remove bolts attaching center bearing support bracket<br />
and move propeller shaft rearward to clear transmission<br />
companion flange.<br />
NOTE: Use a wire or rubber band to prevent the trunnions<br />
from slipping off the "U" joint journal.<br />
17. Disconnect the clutch pedal lever return spring.<br />
18. Remove the two clutch cross shaft bracket bolts and<br />
remove clutch cross shaft bracket.<br />
19. Remove the clutch control link clevis pin and unhook<br />
clevis.<br />
20. Remove shifter shaft outer lever, nut and washer. This<br />
will disconnect the linkage connecting the gear shift to<br />
the transmission.<br />
21. Remove two screws and remove flywheel guard from<br />
bottom of clutch housing.<br />
22. Remove the two engine rear mounting bolts.<br />
23. Jack up rear end of engine about 1/2" off the frame.<br />
CAUTION: Place a block of wood under head of jack to<br />
prevent damage to oil pan.<br />
24. Remove the two top screws holding clutch housing to<br />
engine end plate and Install two J-2969 headless screws<br />
or studs to support the transmission until the balance of<br />
the screws are removed.<br />
25. Remove breather pipe bracket from clutch housing and<br />
bolt attaching breather pipe and rear tappet cover.<br />
26. Remove the nut from brake control hand brake cable<br />
lever pivot plate brace and remove bolt and nut attaching<br />
hand brake cable lever to cable lever pivot plate side';<br />
brace. This will allow the hand brake control levers to be<br />
pushed out of the way to facilitate removal of the overdrive<br />
and transmission.<br />
27. With a helper pull transmission and clutch housing back<br />
towards the rear and down, removing the unit from<br />
underneath the car.<br />
NOTE: For removal of parts from rear of adaptor, see<br />
instructions on page 9-10.<br />
NOTE: For disassembly of housing, see instructions on<br />
page 9-12.<br />
REMOVAL: (Double Lever Type)<br />
1. Remove drain plugs and drain lubricant.<br />
2. Loosen the propeller shaft center bearing support bolt.<br />
3. Remove the nuts, washers and clamps from the front<br />
universal joint and disconnect the propeller shaft at the<br />
front companion flange by sliding the shaft rearward.<br />
4. Use a rubber band or tape to hold bearing cups and needle<br />
rollers in place.<br />
5. Disconnect the low and reverse and the high and intermediate<br />
shift rods at the transmission shifter levers.<br />
6. Disconnect the speedometer cable at transmission and the<br />
governor wire at the overdrive control switch<br />
7. Disconnect the overdrive control cable from the overdrive<br />
shift shaft lever<br />
